Trade deadline is March 3rd. That ride, although the amount of games doesn't change, may be even longer after the TDL. I know it was last year after the TDL.

Notable UFA's for this season:
D Klingberg
D Kulikov
D Shattenkirk
F Grant
G Stolarz

Also, I read a potential contracted Duck might be available in Vatrano.
With the long ride I meant several years of being in bottom third of the league and then hopefully trend upwards.

I think two more years, depending on how fast our prospect D acclimate to the pro game and if we can sign our two NCAA D in LaCombe and Thrun.

2023-24
D LaCombe & D Thrun in NHL. D Andersson &/or Helleson NHL call up.
D Minty, D Zell, D Hinds, G Clang, and RW Pasta in AHL. (Maybe LW Tschigerl in AHL too.)

2024-25
D Helleson/Andersson and D Hinds in NHL. D Minty and D Zell call ups to NHL.
D Luneau, D Warren, and LW Hvidston to AHL.

2025-26
Verbeek pursues top veterans.

Once players goto the AHL? There’s no contract issues, or any type of maximum amount of time they can play in the NHL before something happens to the said player right?

For instance a player can’t go back to the CHL after a said amount of games. Because I would love to see Minty next season on quite a few call ups.

I just don’t know if there’s issues to contracts, only so many times a player can be called etc.

I wish I could explain it better. But I hope you get the jist of the question ❤️

Little to negative value on most of those

Players can go back to the CHL at any time (as long as they are of age), but the 9 game "audition" relates to a year of the ELC burning off on the contract. There is also a 40ish game threshold that will burn off a year to unrestricted free agency. But there is nothing to keep a team from sending down an eligible player to the CHL at any time.

Once a player is AHL eligible they can go up and down as much as needed, until waivers kick in which I don't believe can be for at least 3 years.

Some GM will pay a 1st for Klingberg. He’s been bad here but he is playing way over his head on a bad team and poor system. Other GMs know that. They are going to look back at his Dallas seasons as well.

I agree. If Chiarot can get a first. There’s no question Klingberg will as well. And after reading the trade boards everyone is looking for a RHD on the east coast teams. I was thinking a high second a few weeks ago? But the price is going up with the amount of available defenseman

What’s your rangers planning to do Leo? We know y’all got two first round picks. Are you gonna spend them? Or use them in the draft.

Rangers looking very pretty right now with draft currency.

Rangers might go after Kane which I think is a mistake. Rangers are a playoff team but they are not a cup contender yet. I rather they use the draft picks since it’s a very deep draft. But the organization is very impatient.

II’m always surprised to find that there’s a lot of people who are positive that we’re going to turn it around in a two or three years. I really feel like this Team will only start competing again in year four or (worse) five

Minty is actually AHL eligible next year anyway, same with Gauthier. Both are the same age as Zellweger (2003 born) but drafted a year later due to September 15th cutoff for draft eligibility. They've all completed their junior obligations once their team's seasons are finished this year. They hypothetically could be returned to junior as overages next season but all three will be starting their pro careers.

I think it’s going to be 2-3 years. Next year will be bad, the year after they may be a bubble team. I’ve said this before , I think when Z is Terry’s age maybe a year younger they will start competing. So about 3 years?

A lot depends on who they draft, how the kids develop and what vets they have and how they perform.

Last night was a painful reminder of how much work they have to do.

I think a fresh coach could have this team turned around and improving by as soon as next year. A bit optimistic but lots of talent, and having Dostal splitting starts with Gibson should only benefit both of them. Riding Gibson/Injury to Stolarz has really hurt in net.

Trust me, I was forced to watch this debacle with my cousins who are all diehard Bruins fans. I think a lot of things have to go right in order for this team to compete in about 2 to 3 years. I don’t think people realize that we just lack skill everywhere, even on offense. Terry, Zegras and McTavish all can’t do it on their own.

I wonder what’s going to happen on defense and more importantly Gibson. If we trade him, just sets us back even more

I think 2-3 is pretty reasonable.

Should have top pairing dmen on both sides in drysdale and Mintyukov.

Should have 3 options for our top 6 center spots with zegras mctavish and bedard/fantilli/Carlson… odd man out becomes too 6 winger .

Have dostal in net

Mostly just need a new coach + and growing

Really excited about Minty. Plus also have Hinds, Zellweger, the college kids.

Hate to say it since I hate tanking but we really need a Top 3 pick in this draft. I’m just hoping they can play competitive hockey and not games like this. Lol

Also, like to see this team under a new coach and system that should hopefully improve the team as well.

We’re in an interesting spot that we will have a ton of cap space and an influx of young talent all at the same time just as our bad contracts are expiring.

In the next two years we will lose guys like Shattenkirk and Silfverberg, replace our coach, add highly touted prospects, and have enough cap to take a swing at higher end UFAs.

Will we be competing in two years? I don’t know. Could we be? Absolutely.

I am not certain that I would define Comtois as a long-time Duck. He is not, however, living up to his contract, and I suspect, based upon what Verbeek did with Steel and Milano, that the Ducks will not extend him after his current contract ends.
He’s different than Milano in that there were rumors about issues with Milano off ice and different than Steel because he will fight, something our team is lacking.

I feel like they sign him to a two year prove it deal under a new coach and then give him the boot if nothing changes

Don't agree that trading Gibson sets us back. He isn't doing anything that Stolarz and Dostal can't.

Truly appreciate the information. I was trying to understand it on Google and it didn’t break it down as simple as you and others explained it.

Off topic? But I would love to see Zellweger and Minty next season. I think those two could have a shot at something with Drysdale on a line. Especially Zellweger

once we land the #1 pick and sign pastrnak to a huge contract, we'll be contending for the playoffs as early as next season

Anaheim has money. Plenty of it. Number one in the NHL of cap room once Klingberg is shipped out. I agree, Pastrnak should be the main target this off season. I want him bad. Guy can put the puck in the net

if there's one guy i wouldn't mind PV throwing money at, it's pastrnak. this team has lacked any sort of elite goal-scoring since perry in the early 2010s
