How is comparing Tippett and Frost a double standard? No one thinks Frost has excelled at the NHL level, right? He needs to showcase himself as an impact offensive player. But their career contexts, and what skills have translated in isolate, aren't remotely similar.

He was the best player on his AHL team in his D+3. He missed an entire season in his D+4. His D+5, coming off injury, was disappointing, albeit with moments of brilliance later on, on a total train wreck of a team
He wasn't close to as good as Tippett in his D+3 in the AHL,

"best player" on his team is cute, like who else was on that team?
Vorobyev, Sushko, Kase, Ratcliffe, Rubtsov, Twarynski.
The veterans, O'Reilly, Andreoff, Carey.

If Frost wasn't heads and shoulders better (and he wasn't) than that group . . .

A rose is a rose . ..
But a 1st is not a 1st, huge difference between #5, #14 and #27.

If you could have gotten a top 20 for Laughton, that's one thing, but usually at the TDL, you're gonna get a pick somewhere in the 20s if you can get a team to give up a 1st.

One reason TB was willing to trade 1sts was picking in the late 20s they didn't see a huge gap between that pick and the rest of their drafts. St Louis would have thought twice about the Schenn deal if they thought one of the picks would be #14, they expected both picks to be in the mid-20s.

And a huge difference between a first now and a first in some distant future.

We are one Tortorella benching away from you completely changing your tune on Tippett.

Well, at least I didn't predict he'd be the next Barzal, right? That'd be bad.

Think there is any shot Torts can convince Fletcher to trade for Seth Jones?

I’m just so sick and tired of this roller coaster. This is for sure the worst position we have been in in a decade or two. Hexy came in and tried a rebuild by doing it the right way via the draf. We didn’t hit home with some of them obviously and the ones we did haven’t been able to take us further/have declines a lot lately.

Now, we are in cap hell, have no assets really, a terrible farm, consistently trade high 2nd round picks, and no identity/sense of direction. All this is going to do is start the inevitable rebuild again once we get a new gm. On and on this rolller coaster will go.
