There's been a bit of forward shuffling down in Texas. Aksiantsiuk is out, but Kawaguchi is back on an AHL deal. He was a staple late in the season on the top line at RW with Damiani (playing center) and Kero. I could see them keeping Kero and Kawaguchki together to play with Bourque. It would allow them to spread the rookies/new to North America on different lines: Bourque, Stranges, Blumel.
I'm actually giving up on finding the exact info for sure on Karlstrom's veteran status regarding the AHL veteran rule. He either puts them over the limit or they're fine with the Butcher addition on defense. He's just barely under the cutoff if HockeyAllsvenskan games don't count which seems likely or he's over that limit if they do. I couldn't find a definitive answer. He might even be an exemption based on age. Some sites suggested age is now factored in, but there's no mention of it on the AHL website that I could find.
The other also likely scenario is that Karlstrom isn't even sent to the AHL. Studenic still qualifies as a development player and could be waived. Olofsson doesn't require waivers, and he also is a development player. Texas will pretty easily be able to roll 4 lines deep.

Bored and have a ton of free time...kinda wanna make a Johnston or Stankoven highlights video...I might not sure tho it's so much work
If I did, would yall be more interested in like a best points type of video, or an all goals type of video? Like I said tho no promises, it's a lot of work and I might not have the attention span for that while taking care of a puppy![]()
agreed, just goals gets kinda boring. i like to see the work to get the puck back, the great vision, and the great goals.Personally I prefer best plays, they’re more fun to watch.
I also like the full shift-by-shift videos, but those seem a lot more rare and isolated to scouting.
Have fun with a puppy, I have two dogs myself.

@Kcb12345 can you highlight Johnson on any longer plays so we for sure know which player to watch? Sometimes it's very freaking obvious but others not so much and it's super helpful, especially if the clip has several players on the screen at once.
Thanks.
Thanks for doing this!Video will come in around 21 minutes long for Johnston
I could trim it down more, but got a little lazy and didn't trim out some of the celebration time before replays so it's a bit longer but for 65 highlights or so it's not bad
Will look into highlighting him on some plays where it might be difficult to tell its him, but most of them are obvious thankfully and the announcers mention him by name in most if not all of them. Around the 3 minute mark or so the highlights get choppy for his 6-point game only cause the OHL highlight video was very poorly made
It depends on the video software you're using but it doesn't need to be anything fancy. Any time it's not completely obvious, pause the highlight for like 0.5s with a red circle or arrow pointing to the best hockey prospect on the screen.Anyone here know how to do that? I've never made a highlight video before but didn't even really think if it. Most of the clips it'll be obvious but I definitely know of a few that could use it that I've saved, especially cause some of the clips are short and quick (like 5-8 seconds cause that's all the OHL highlight videos gave them lol)
I'll look into it for sure tho
Thanks for doing this!
@Kcb12345 Super cool you take time making these!
Stranges seem like an obvious pick if you wanna do another one. There are a few out there already but they're mostly prior to his draft from what I can see.
I don't know if this is a new thing or maybe I didn't pay as much attention to prospects in the past that were not Dallas property, but I keep seeing this more and more. This is at least the third player in the past week that I've seen confirmed while they were playing in the Hlinka Gretzky that they'd start in Europe, but they're prepared to leave for the OHL mid-season if they aren't getting time. Guys just don't seem to have a problem speaking up and putting themselves in a position to succeed. Bichsel did the same thing leaving Switzerland for Sweden, but I'm honestly maybe a bit more impressed with these younger Euros giving the men's league a try, but flat out saying I'm not going to risk my development and heading to a different situation if needed.
I don't think they deserve minutes if they don't earn them, but we all know just like some NHL teams don't play younger guys as much, some Euro teams and leagues fall into the same trap. I think there's a right away and a wrong way to this approach. If you're entitled about it, you're doing it the wrong way. It seems like most of these guys are doing it the right way. Personally, I'd rather see a prospect play semi-regular to regular minutes in a men's league if they're capable of that, but I love that they're aware enough of their development that Euro junior really isn't going to cut it compared to the CHL.
I have no idea if it's common either, but I think your last point is the most important one, outside of maybe Swedish and Finnish juniors, I don't think these kids trust the developmental systems in Europe, and the next best thing is the WHL or OHL. It's a smart move for their careers if they think they have a real shot at making it, but a pretty radical life move for teenagers to be doing that.
