Right, but there are different factors when it comes to pushing someone from behind into the boards. Did they turn at the last minute or did you see their numbers all the way? Did you bump them or drive through them? Did you run into them or extend your arms with a cross check? Hit them in the upper or lower back? Were they braced for contact or not? What’s the size/strength disparity?

I’m not saying the minor wasn’t warranted but Drury put himself in a really vulnerable position. Just a dumb play on his part.
For my instance, my worst suspension was pushing someone on his lower back. They go flying, he was showboating and broke the code and I’m old school, so it is what it is .

It seems that most of the refs now err on the side of calling a major so they will have a chance to review and walk it back if facts don't support the original call.

I was unimpressed by the former ref (Myers?) who opined, iirc in this case, that a major was the appropriate call, and further compounded his obtuse perspective by suggesting that an injury justified the five.
Was that the former ref or was that Boucher? It was loud in my house and couldn’t tell but yeah either way I was wondering what they were talking about. Just because it resulted in an injury doesn’t mean it’s a major penalty.

That stat about Verheaghe having three GWGs last year vs the Caps hurt. He was the only reason the Caps lost.

Love Hath and Orlov. I’m pulling for Boston and Toronto in the East.
I cant stand toronto but they look like they might have it in them to get past the first round this year. Vasilevskiy also doesnt look nearly as solid as years past

He may have been the biggest reason, but he was far from the only reason. The Caps were completely outclassed by the end of that series.
Not sure how you can claim that. The Caps shat the bed the second half of G5 due to some rookie errors by veteran players but they outshot and outplayed the Panthers in G6. Samsonov had an .870 save percentage in G6 including letting up a softie to tie the game in the third and the OT goal went right through him as well. At 5 on 5 in G6 they carried 64% of the high danger chances and 57% of the expected goals.

Orlov is inconsistent imo. Kinda like Jensen.

Sometimes you get elite Orlov where he is very noticeable out there, you can tell from the first shift.

Othertimes hes just a decent JAG out there

I think it'd still be wise to be cautious with Orlov's next contract but yeah, he's been great in Boston. Led their D in xGF% since he was traded to Boston and is making plays left and right this postseason.

Looking forward to seeing him and Hathaway lift the Cup this year!

Garnet Hathaway draws a completely needless minor at the horn from Matthew Tkachuk who is frustrated at him and cross-checks him from behind.

On that ensuing PP, Orlov with a brilliant pass to Debrusk who has an easy job to direct the puck to the empty net.

Johansson created 2 different great chances by skating the puck into the attacking zone on the PP.

You're welcome, NHL.

Orlov>Carlson
After Carlson returned from his injury, it was clear that the team was weaker in his absence, but some of that was how the team's roster and strategy were structured based on his presence. imo we traded the wrong guy and it woulda been nice to see what return Mr. Norris might've brought.

Orlov was a rental and we couldn’t agree to an extension (he would still be here if negotiations went the way the team wanted to afaik) and regardless i doubt a move around carlson would’ve been able to materialize until the offseason if he was on the shopping block since he’s a longer term commitment.

HOT TAKE from RS:

Caps find a way to bury Nick’s salary this summer, and resign Orlov to Carlson money.

Ovechkin will be happy and sad. But managed.

Trade out some other forward money (Kuz, Mantha, Oshie) and like salary to invigorate the top 6.

Still have that top 10 pick as well.
