A lot of people saying Keefe is whining, but he’s 100% right.

Veteran teams manipulate the officials like this and this is why I 100% don’t care about players who decide to dive or embellish in any sport. Keefe is trying to manipulate the officials too. Everyone should try to manipulate the officials. It’s a competitive advantage! You’re an idiot if you don’t work the refs!

Leafs have adopted the Lightning strategy and are working it to perfection. Take out few of the other teams star players and win the games you propably don't deserve to win.

If they had even a decent goalie i'd expect them to go on a deep run.

It’s called gamesmanship….and I’m fine with it.

Literally said this word for word to my buddy who is from St Pete and a diehard Lightning fan. The exact message I sent him was, “Stamkos playing checkers taking Matthews to the box like that.”

Now of course Keefe isn’t complaining about Lafferty not being ejected when he should have been given a major for that cross check to the face but still his point about this specific instance is a valid one.

This review rule is crazy. So many bad hits being ruled legal. Tom Wilson has to like this lol

Jack Drury just got pasted and to me that’s 90% his fault. Never turn your back right as a guy is coming to hit you, especially 3-4 feet from the boards.
You cant hit from behind 5 feet away from the boards. Thats why kids have stop signs on the back of their jerseys.

He only hit from behind because Drury turned at the last second. He wasn’t defenseless and he put himself in a vulnerable position. Every coach tells you when you start checking not to turn towards the boards at the last second if a player is coming right at you.

The minor penalty is fine but it’s really hard as a player about to check someone to pull up or stop once you’ve shifted your momentum towards the player.

I mean... If I want to hurt someone its a push from behind close to the boards. Ive taken my suspensions.

Right, but there are different factors when it comes to pushing someone from behind into the boards. Did they turn at the last minute or did you see their numbers all the way? Did you bump them or drive through them? Did you run into them or extend your arms with a cross check? Hit them in the upper or lower back? Were they braced for contact or not? What’s the size/strength disparity?

I’m not saying the minor wasn’t warranted but Drury put himself in a really vulnerable position. Just a dumb play on his part.

Good points on the act of hitting from behind. Im more in shock that the on ice 5 min majors are getting overturned. League on notice. Free game on hitting from behind.

Yeah it is interesting seeing the major boarding calls overturned last night and again today. Both were violent collisions but I actually really like the rule change that allows officials to call a major and then video replay it. One of the better rule changes in a while. For whatever it’s worth I think they got both calls right even though both receiving players got injured. The Point play wasn’t a penalty and this was a standard boarding penalty.

That area 3-4 feet from the boards is so dangerous, especially when it’s a physical game and guys are not conceding an inch. There’s certainly a respect element you have to have for your opponent because there’s a big difference between doing something you can do and doing something you should do… just because you may be within the rules to light a guy up or shove him hard into the boards when he’s in a vulnerable position doesn’t mean you need to. I have had my share of big hits along the way but I always tried to pull up when I knew I could really hurt someone or I could feel that they couldn’t defend themselves.

It seems that most of the refs now err on the side of calling a major so they will have a chance to review and walk it back if facts don't support the original call.

I was unimpressed by the former ref (Myers?) who opined, iirc in this case, that a major was the appropriate call, and further compounded his obtuse perspective by suggesting that an injury justified the five.

It felt like he as a young player just didn't expect the D to come in for a hit so aggressively on the PK.

It was a weird play all around. I think Pulock played that very poorly. Moving yourself out of position for a hit around the boards on the PK is a really dumb play. Good passer can burn you so easily on that and it’s too late to recover. On the other hand, Drury did turn right before the hit so 5 would have been too much. 2 minutes seem fine to me. Pulock still cost his team a crucial goal.
