From DefendtheNest:

Black Aces: The CHL NHL transfer agreement also allows for CHL players to play in the AHL at the conclusion of their current season. Which is why it is fun to keep an eye on various prospects Junior clubs as the Gulls regular season starts to wind down.

From DKpittsburghSports on CHL-NHL agreement faqs:
WHAT ABOUT WHEN JUNIOR SEASONS END?
Players who are restricted from playing in the minors during the season are allowed to play in the minors on an amateur contract after their junior team's season ends. The same rules still apply to the player the following season.

Last year, Zellweger was assigned to San Diego. He's already signed, though. Hvidston and Tschigerl aren't signed, but their rights still belong to the Ducks. They were the ones whose teams were on the brink of elimination. Swift Current didn't make it (Hvidston), but Calgary (Tschigerl) did eek in.

I hope this sates your inquiry and maybe checks some of your hubris about DefendtheNest.

Relax I’m not trashing him.

You’re stating the rules. I know the rules. I’m saying he is just a fan with a blog. It isn’t hubris. It’s like me saying Static (sorry dude you were just the last poster lol) is expecting the Ducks to sign Moore like it is anything other then any of us speculating.

So

This essentially means, no college/junior FAs coming in. At least none of the interesting ones and there are a few.
No, most don't get their first year burned, I know McKown is for Columbus, anyone else so far? The vast majority sign ELCs that begin the next season, like Wiebe.

More specifically unless we already own the rights they don't actually vecome UFa until the summer unless they were never drafted.

We already know, for example, that Verbeek has said that he wants to resign Shattenkirk. This is a more interesting discussion, because after this disaster of a season who do you keep and why do you keep them?
Did Verbeek actually say that? I thought it was just speculation when he wasn't moved at the deadline.

This thought was shared before the TDL. From the 4th Period's David Pagnotto on Jan 27th article:

Ducks blueliner Kevin Shattenkirk has also generated interest, but the belief is Verbeek will try to sign him to an extension before fielding trade calls on the veteran, who turn 34 on Sunday.

Hinds is our closest. Had a hell of a season, +61 I believe
Sort of funny that's essentially the same +/- Conner Bedard has :)

Have to say, it is hard for me whom I like the most out of our top 5 D prospects (Drysdale aside).

Zellweger is so exciting
Minty just incredibly talented
Luneau sort of good at everything
Hinds a defensive stud with some potential
LaCombe just an amazing skater for his size

This pool is so amazing. Add Moore, Warren and Benoit or White next to Fowler.

Maybe we need to ice 4 D pairings and 3 forward lines in the future.

I say we get rid of everyone except Fowler

That's a bummer. Thankfully our D prospect pool is so deep, even if we don't have many (any?) prospects like him.

Warren was a long term project as a raw 6'5 shutdown D, even Madden cited that some prospects don't need to think they need to be in a hurry and it could take them to age 23 to fully develop.

Warren's season started with an injury. His year wasn't great compared to his teammate and Duck mate Luneau. Then his season ends with an injury. He's got another year eligible to play in the CHL due to his age, which is the same boat Luneau is in. It's possible that Warren needs to learn how much of his weight to throw around with his growing body, with his metric at his draft recording at 6'5 and 225 lbs.

Warren is a very visually physical defensive d-man like Manson. We do have a couple of other shutdown D in the system like Hinds and Moore. Hinds is 6'3 and 181 lbs at his draft and has been developing the past two seasons in the Q. The Q had rated D+0 defensemen in its history for hits and puck battles where Hinds, Warren, and Luneau were in the top-10.

Hinds plays a physical game like Lindholm than Manson.

Then there's 6'3 and 185 lbs Moore, his draft metrics. He's turned out to be a fluid skating, shutdown D with Harvard. In his D+3 season and 2nd year in the NCAA, Moore finished the season 2nd in d-man scoring and tied for 1st in d-man plus/minus (+20) with Thrun. Moore's +20 rating has him ranked tied for 34th overall in the NCAA's. In Moore's D+2 season and 1st year in NCAA, he finished 2nd in plus/minus with +16; while Thrun had a +9.

Both LD Hinds and RD Moore are defensive guys first and then started developing their offense. I think because of Warren's physique of 6'5 and 225lbs hype is what puts all the other defensive D in the shadows even though both Hinds and Moore had a great showing.

I think Hinds and Moore are Hurricane type of dmen. Not dynamic offensively but long and mobile to chip in with primarily strong passing. But they really need to add a lot of beef to their frames as even Pesce and Slavin are nearly 210 lbs… and both came into the league over 200 lbs and found pretty immediate success. Both are extremely behind strength and mass wise if they are truly around 185.

Hinds is nearly a ppg defenseman this year while having a +61, 2nd on the team, 2nd in the Q, and 1st among D-men for plus/minus rating. He plays like Lindholm on the defensive end, but his offensive ceiling remains unknown.

As for their biometrics...

Moore should be gaining some mass since he's in a college program. Hinds' Sherbrooke page has him listed at 188 lbs, seven pounds heavier than his Elite Prospects listed page.

Not sure either of them "makes" the team, but I think LaCombe and Minty will both get a good look. Can't remember Helleson's contract situation but if he's still under contract next year, think he will as well.
