Dude has shown zero progression in 5 years.

Also he actually played an all-Finn line in Montreal with Lehky and Armia and in Carolina with Aho and Teravainen.

Both teams tried everything they could to try to get him going.
You mean you don't want to give up assets for a guy being outpaced by Alex Newhook that's signed thru the rest of the decade?!

He sucks. 5th year in the league, got plenty of opportunities and he's still bad.

If you think Newhook is bad you sure shouldn't want Kotkaniemi and that contract for 8 years.
6 months age difference between the two.

Honestly I wouldn't mind locking down Newhook for 8 years.

Anyway we've got no need to trade for Kotkaniemi, and even if we did, we can't really afford to play Makar in all 3 D pairings.

Literally just making up stats now to help your argument.

Usually a sign to step away when made up stays come into play.

Keep believing what you want to believe.
You're really out here casting stones against posters using obtuse statlines to support their opinions right after defending Girard with a baseless claim of stats "not freely available to the public". C'mon man.

I keep reading this. And on some level, I think I actually understand it better now. But is there a site that breaks out faceoff percentage by important situations? I mean not all defensive draws at important right? You might be up 4-1, etc... I guess what I'm saying is, it would just be nice to be able to sort a list of forwards by FO% that actually matters.
Sadly, no site that I'm aware of. I wish there was a separator between overall % and key possession % (PP, PK, 6v5, OT, etc.), but that would take a good amount of extra work that's, honestly, probably not worth the extra effort. I do feel like faceoffs get a bad rap in terms of importance, though. A lot of fans seem to belive they're completely useless, but that's simply not true.

Totally biased but I think the best idea I came up with was Byram for Cirelli. Second best unfortunately is Byram for Joel Erickson EK(don't really want to see Byram in a wild jersey).

Next level is G+ for Bennett, G+ for retained Hayes+

Scheifele

PLD(and hope he really enjoys the winning culture)

Toews

And completely different, a retained Kopitar.

Do you believe that Byram is tradable right now? Is Cirelli available?

Does anyone think about the fact that it's the same 7 teams making the playoffs every year and how that might affect the TDL?

Take Toronto for example. The first they gave up for Foligno might make them apprehensive to do what Florida did last year.

And Tampa: do they still have the trade ammunition that they've used the past 2-3 seasons?

And this is with a very restrictive salary cap. Do past precedents really still apply in this type of environment?

It just doesn't seem like there's any realistic trade opportunity out there that would outweigh the value Bo is going to give the Avs from the FO's perspective. Going from his Finals performance to yet another injury-riddled season is kind of fortunate considering that the AAV on his bridge should be extremely manageable now. If they were going to ship out any of their young D for a 2C it should've been Girard while he still held value, but that ship has probably sailed.

There's still the possibility that he comes back after Christmas and has a good 2nd half + good playoffs. In that case he'll still be expensive, especially since he has a LBI that is unrelated to previous injuries.

But unless that happens he's probably looking at a 2-year bridge in the high 3's.

It's generally going to be the same 5 or so teams in the picture every year. Only about 2-3 switch out and what not. For instance, the Devils are most assuredly going to be a potentially big buyer at the deadline, whereas St. Louis is likely going to sell a couple expiring assets. It ain't like there's this wholesale change every season between the haves and have-nots.

Toronto's issue isn't being gun-shy, they definitely won't be. It's cap space, plain and simple. If they can somehow make it work they gotta find some scoring depth up front. ANY scoring depth will do. That's been their big issue. Well, that and defensive breakdowns but I think they're finally going to avoid that particular rut this time around.

The Blues will be kind of interesting to watch. Armstrong is not shy at all about pulling the plug, he's done so before even when the team was on the fringe of the playoff picture (which they're not right now). I don't recall Nashville being so quick to give up on the season but they can't possibly be thinking "go for it!" right now.

And if Tampa wants to load up at the deadline, they'll find a way. They always do.

Oh for sure. And for the sake of their Cup hopes they better pray that's exactly how it ends up. But the dream scenario is to sign him long term, right? Not sure Bo's camp would even humor the thought and I don't know where you'd even start with that kind of valuation.

This describes the West. The East has almost no turnover.

Regarding StL, I'm most interested in who they're trading with.

I'm surprised to see any NHL GM pull the plug. They always get a super long leash and teams are resistant to pivot on mistakes.

Ever since the Canucks said that their only untouchable player was EP, people have been speculating about sending Hughes to NJ to play with his brothers.

I think Friedman talked about it earlier this week (didn't listen to him myself) but someone suggested a package around Nemec and Bratt (who they have problems signing). That'd make sense IMO.

I don’t really see the fit. If they didn’t have Hamilton I’d agree. But moving your best D prospect and 2nd best forward for a redundant piece would be a bad trade.

Hmmmmmm...if I'm NJ I don't think I get rid of Bratt. I get it, he's a winger but man, he's so very important to their success.

Now, if Vancouver were to accept Dougie as part of the return (they absolutely shouldn't) then that could be workable. Canucks would be stupid to part ways with Hughes though, IMO he's already the best defenseman to ever play for them.

But I'll agree it was very, very odd for Rutherford and Allvin to specify that EP40 was their "only" untouchable. Like, really? Hughes is expendable? Who in hell is going to replace him??? OEL? He's not that good anymore.

The logic from the Canucks' POV is you get Nemec back (which will help their cap situation as well).

Actually those monster deals never happen but if I were the Devils I'd try to get Boeser as well in the deal to replace Bratt.

Like Boeser and Hughes for Bratt, Nemec + picks

f*** that

They could've easily done that had they worked harder to dump EJ's contract and/or found a cheaper alternative to Manson.

The long-term solution to the 2C issue will likely be as much if not more expensive, but whatever, what's done is done.
