Hopefully it all feeds Bower's desire to get another look, as I think the Avs have soured on Kaut at this point and others still haven't found the scoresheet. Glad he is healing up and hope he gets another opportunity.

If Bowers just had the worst version of an injury that didn't require surgery, I'm thinking the AHL might be a better spot for him to get his conditioning back up. His first few games back on ice at this point, probably would not endear him to Bednar at all, so this might be a blessing in disguise for the guy.

Hopefully, the Avs will quickly give him a recall for a shot once he's back up to speed.

Would be crazy to bring him (Bowers) straight back to another NHL game. He'll be back up sooner or later this season I'm sure.

1. Bo Horvat, Canucks

I reported earlier this week, the Canucks dropped another contract offer to Horvat’s camp, led by agent Pat Morris, a couple of weeks ago, but it didn’t produce any resolution. The Canucks then informed Horvat and his camp that they would focus on trading him. I think part of this might be the Canucks captain wanting to wait until after the season to negotiate, which is common among high-profile pending UFAs. But the trade market for Horvat will be red-hot. And because he doesn’t have a no-trade clause, the Canucks can entertain the max number of bidders. I don’t anticipate a quick resolution because so many contending teams are so close to the cap, but as we get closer to March 3, watch out. I really like him as a fit in Colorado, and there’s no question that as we close in on the deadline the Avalanche will want to add to their top six, having never replaced the departed Nazem Kadri. — Pierre LeBrun

5. Ryan O’Reilly, Blues

Not that I think anything is imminent — we’re only in December — but my sense this week after talking to a few NHL teams is that they expect the Blues to listen on their pending-UFA captain in the new year. The Blues continue to play inconsistent hockey, and it’s not giving anyone confidence that the season will get back on track. I think the Maple Leafs have talked about O’Reilly internally. Whether that leads to showing interest with the Blues in the new year, we shall see. Like with Horvat, the Avalanche would make sense. I mean, any contender should have interest in the 2019 NHL playoff MVP. — LeBrun

LeBrun at it again!

I want O’Reilly.

What's the most likely IMO:

If we go pure rental: Toews or Monahan

If we go for someone with term (w/ retention): Hayes or Henrique

I don't see Toews as that much cheaper that ROR... both will require a 1st, just the level of prospect may change slightly. Monahan will be the cheapest if he is healthy, pretty large if.

I could see either of those as realistic.

Honorable (or dishonorable) mention of Domi. Avs have sniffed around before, wouldn't shock me to see them try to grab him cheap.

I just don't believe that the Avs want ROR back. I could see them really wanting Toews though.

Domi would be fine as a rental. He's very good when motivated, and tends to be in the right situation. Just get him, and cut him loose at postseason's end.

Toews seems like a Sakic style pickup even if he isn't very good anymore, whereas Sakic was dealing directly with ROR when all that went down. I can't see Joe trading anything for ROR.

Conversely I do not see Army dealing ROR back to Colorado. That is the absolute LAST place he'd want to deal his captain.

You can probably get away with Domi as your 2C if you stick him between Landeskog and Nichushkin.

However, his penchant for dumb penalties/dumb plays would scare me. Took a while to get that out of Kadri's game here, I don't think it would leave Domi's game in a matter of weeks.

Not to mention that’d be a tough sell to the locker room, even if only a few players from that era are still around….those players are our leaders. Ship has sailed with how he and Duchene both left and that is just fine.

No thanks on ROR. I would be OK with Toews or Hayes.
Has Domi been playing C with CHI? If he has I wouldn't be against it. He is a band-aid solution unfortunately but considering our cap issues this TDL and next season if the cap only goes up 1M the Avs can't be chooser too much.
