Really should've resigned Burky, 25pts in 23 games for 5.5 mil. His pompous haters here gave him way too much flak.

They couldn't afford him and a proven 2C either way. They were paying too much for better wingers to bring him back. They're paying Lehky $4.5M, Nuke $6.125M, Landy $7M, and Mikko $9.25M. Wouldn't make any sense to pay $5.5M for another winger that's fairly one dimensional.

Burky was a good player for the Avs and a game breaker, and underrated clutch player, but he was pretty streaky and didn't contribute much when he wasn't scoring. I'll take Lehky's all around game over Burky's any day. Especially on this team who's system is tailor made for a puck hound like him.

Lehky's got 18 points in 21 games for $4.5M, has a much better all around game, has great chemistry with Mikko, is a good penalty killer, and might be (along with Nuke) the best forechecker in the NHL. He's also a hugely underrated part of the PP's success, because he works his ass off to win puck battles and keep possession in the O zone. So many PP goals happen because of great individual efforts by Lehky to win a battle and get the puck to his line mates.

He's a steal at that price if he can keep putting the puck in the net, much more so than Burky who could go cold at any moment and not contribute much.

Let's wait until the guy goes the whole year without one of his extremely common cold streaks before we lose our collective mind. He's had stretches like this his whole career then goes to sleep just as regularly.

That's one of the crazier goals I've seen.

Looked like it bounced off the wall, off the ref, then skipped and went off the end boards, started knuckling, then went off the side of the net, then off the skate, off the post, bounces down off the blocker, then off the post again, then off the skate again, and somehow squeaks in the net.

That's a one in a million kind of shot.

Players fit differently on different teams. Burakovsky is like Seattle's 2nd or 3rd best player and gets more ice time. Even if Avs resigned him, he'd still be like the 5th best forward, or even 6th depending on if you think Lehkonen is better. So I don't think he'd be putting up same type of numbers as he is in Seattle. He sure would help right now though with all the injuries

When was the last time he was a 3rd liner here? He was very firmly on the 2nd line at least last year.

I liked the guy and would have loved to sign him if we could have, but if Nuke and Landy were healthy we wouldn't even be discussing him
Bednar put Burkie on the 3rd line at times during the regular season last year, and was there basically all playoffs

Lehky took his place in the top-6 and he was the PP2 slingshot.

All of last year he was on the 3rd line when the roster was healthy

He's also receiving the 3rd-higest TOI of any forward on that team, on the top line and PP1. He was definitely an underrated component of the Cup run, but that's a lot to pay for a guy who would've gotten lost in the middle-6 again as a winger.
What middle 6?

He sucks... anybody picking him up would be doing Tampa a favor.
One of the strangest ebs and flows to a young career I have ever seen. Guy doesn't get drafted, then gets signed and looks like a world beater where scouts are kicking themselves for letting him get away. Then he's part of a major trade and now he's been on waivers twice. All of this in 7 seasons.

Ah yes I was so wrong on Girard oh wait history simply proved me correct and he wasn't more valuable than Rantanen after all, shocker. The fanboys still mad I pointed out their vast misconception of the player I see.

Because their were tons of posters here saying Girard was more valuable than rantanen

Girard is very clearly showing some regression. But also I'd love to see a single poster who said he was more valuable than Rantanen. That never happened I'm sure of it.

Actually it did. A lot. Myself and Henchy were banging that drum pretty hard at one point, a few others as well.

Even you referred to G as the Avs "2nd best value contract" during the debate

Actually a lot of people preferred Girard over Rantanen at the time, from a value perspective.

But I also dont think we were wrong at the time. G was coming off an elite season as a legit #1/2D. I'd still take any true Top pairing D in the league over Mikko.

I mean I would definitely stand by my comment of 2nd best contract value at the time of posting that. But I would say there's a difference in the value to the team and contract value.

I will say that is a fun read. Some takes aged awfully, me very much included.

Yeah... Injuries and Toews' emergence really impacted G and his value here. Though I still think he is being tremendously underrated by certain individuals.

But yeah interesting read for sure. I still think at the time we were all right. Toews last year is basically what G was in that 2021 season. Just think if we had Toews signed for 5 more years now at $5M. Mikko is also a significantly better player today then he was in 2021. He's essentially evolved into a ~40G, 100+ point Forward if he can put together a full season. And he's played a little Center since then.

Having Toews locked up for an extra year or two would be soooo helpful right now.
