That Huberdeau extension is annoyingly high.

That’s the deal I thought MacK would sign. Got to think he comes in higher now.

Good for Calgary. It’ll suck in a few years like most 8-year deals for guys in their late 20’s but they just got a great player signed when two others didn’t want to be there.

Get Weegar done too and that trade looks better and better and they rebound nicely after what looked like an awful summer for them initially.

He's signed at 10.5M until age 38. That's absolute craziness.

Remember that it only starts next year. They'll be lucky to get 2 years worth 10.5M out of that 8 year contract.

I’d rather have Huberdeau on that contract than Gaudreau. I think it’s the exact same deal they offered Gaudreau before he left.
Difference is Gaudreau is 28 at the beginning and Hubs will be 30. That's pretty f***ing huge.

Huberdeau will regret this once he experiences the “Saddledome stink” from that flood a few years back

Huberdeau is great but it's hilarious how The Athletic literally just released an article criticizing the "shiny new toy" contracts and Calgary just signed one.

The contracts that got signed in that article are gross lol. Guessing Huberdeau will be on that list.

It's really not. Huberdeau is 29 now, Gaudreau turns 29 next week.

I'm no Flames fan so I don't care if that's a bad contract. Now they gotta sign Weegar so they can keep the battle of Alberta alive despite what happened to them.

Huberdeau's contract doesn't start until next year. He's basically under contract for the next 9 years.

He better age like Pavelski.

It’s really surprising the Avs have been able to stick to their no big signing bonus stance for so long. Let’s see if it lasts as I’m sure Nate and Brisson will test that.

Happy the Flames didn't go into a rebuild, give me more of battle of Alberta in the playoffs

That's a terrible deal. But Calgary kinda had to do it to justify the trade. If Weager walks this summer, this trade is still a win for FLA.

Tkachuk got 8 years at 9.5 million, better player, and 5 years younger (contract expires when he's 32).
Huberdeau contract takes him to 37, for 1 mill more/year .. woof
People are way too focused on Hubs age. His game will age just fine and that contract is about what he would have gotten on the open market. Calgary got an inside haul for Tkachuk who didn't want to be there and they get to retain their now franchise player and continue building their team.

Good for the Flames. That contract wont look great once you get to years 5-8, but good for them to be able to retain a high profile star player after what they went through with Gaudreau and Tkachuk.

I think Huberdeau is overrated, but still a solid Top line player and fairly similar to Gaudreau tbh so I think they should be able to continue to be a playoff time with him as the star forward.

Buyout proof

Fun fact: Crosby, a generational player in incredible physical shape, was 34 last season and nowhere near a 10.5M player.

Just imagine Huberdeau at 34-35-36-37.
