If the Avs go over the cap - due to bonuses - they lose that cap space the next season? Am I reading that correctly?

I confess I'm not tracking this. Can you please explain this bonus thing? Thx.

Yes, bonus overages get tagged on the following year's cap. In fact, the Avs will be dealing with a small bonus overage ($25,000) for this upcoming season. Can't remember whose it was off the top of my head but they had been pretty careful to leave room for bonuses going into 2021, but injuries and the Meyers signing (I believe) ate away at that room.

Yeah, but this place is complete lunacy!

You obviously don't venture in here after a bad loss or a losing streak consisting of two or more games (which is obviously the bare minimum for losing streaks) if you think THIS is "complete lunacy."

Bro we just won the Stanley Cup with one of the most talented and young cores in the league and people are talking about blowing it up and 21 year olds reaching the peak of their abilities...

Or.......

-AB, boarding up the windows and going to hide under the bed...

P.S Sorry @Bender , I just couldn't resist. :D
Umm who in the what now??
I could see them asking Rants to play 2C or at least being the focal point of the line.

Also see a depth center being brought in on a 1 year 1-1.5M deal. Like Pauly Walnuts.

Also fully expect a 29 signing. It better happen before the season or they are risking a ton. No way you go into this year without him under contract. It would be a complete failure on managements part to not have him locked up.
I wouldn't mind Rantanen as 2C but not second line center... I'm talking about 2nd Captain !!!!

Go Mikko Go!!!

Say we don't sign anyone else and we bank cap space until the deadline, can we use that "banked cap space" on a 2C and still have enough to pay bonuses at the end of the year?

It hasn't been complaining as much as the hot takes, non-substantive predicitions and then the subsequent 5 pages of parsing words. For most, it's enough to be on here talking about hockey while others have an entirely different set of needs they're trying to fulfill here.

Once the news dies down those sorts of things tend to ramp up out of sheer boredom. Even then this offseason has been positively tame as opposed to what USUALLY goes on around this time of year, a Cup win certainly helps allay a lot of offseason concerns.

As currently constructed, I would absolutely try Rants at 2C. If it works, problem solved.
One of the issue with Rants at 2C is we're still short of one top 6er. Also keep in mind that he can't win a faceoff so he has to play with Landy or Compher.

Landy - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - Rants - Compher (not great to learn to play C next to JTC)

or

Nuke - Mack - Newhook (not sure this line would please Mack though)
Landy - Rants - Lehky (I like that line)

Why can't people talk about the cap crunch coming up in the next few years without you guys thinking it is lunacy around here?

Nobody has even come close to mention blowing up this team.

If anybody has problems with reading what is being discussed here they are welcome to ignore this thread.

You're free to talk about that and others are free to complain about it. See how it works both ways?

You can take your own advice as well.. just saying.

This works both ways.

As much as you may not enjoy the hot-takes and the non-substantive predictions, there are others on this board who despise the 'non-substantive' rebuttals to people's ideas on this board.

Every fan has different players they like and don't, different attributes they prefer vs what they don't. What more often happens in here is a person provides an idea, or a thought, or a suggestion, and its often shot down with sarcastic remarks and nothing substantive.

God forbid someone suggests trading away a player they like, or who we drafted.

I don't disagree with that but people are only discussing all options to address the cap crunch coming up soon like it is being done every offseason. That we just won a cup should have no bearing on that discussion which again happens every offseason. What are we supposed to talk about in here? How great it was to win the cup? There is a thread for that already.

Again, that's nothing compared to what happened after all those second-round exits, especially the last one.

And like I said in an earlier post, we're in the deadest part of the offseason, people are gonna just gonna spout some lively bullshit out of sheer boredom.

Not so much lately. Lately, it's been more about "let me see how I can phrase this so I can only be minimally wrong but then take credit if I'm right." The application of this to the various hot takes has been the loose string that people have been pulling at lately. Like people are stupid.

I used to think Cooper was one of the elite coaches. (Obviously his results speak for themselves) after watching quest for the cup, all he ever says is “big boy hockey” and “win your shifts”. I wonder how much of their system was designed by Uncle Fester? I’m sure there is more to him but man his lawyer self really shined through in that documentary.

It was also nice to hear the kind of things Bednar says behind closed doors.
