In my opinion this team is better than the team coming into the 2021-2022 season. You have Manson, Lehkonen, Erod, Meyers coming in and lost Kadri and Bura.

Yeah lots of people are comparing it to the team that won the Cup, but that's not an apples to apples comparison, because that was after their trade deadline additions.
Even without Kadri, this team might be better all around, than the one that started last year.
And if they trade for a legit 2C near the deadline, they could have better forward depth in the middle six than the Cup team with Meyers, eRod, Sedlak, Blidh, and any other deadline deals they make that weren't here last year.
If he has a good season after being healthy for the first time in a while, and signals he wants to test UFA or doesn't want to re-sign with the Habs, he could be a great addition. And possible option to re-sign as well.

We'll have to see what kind of seasons they have, but I feel like he could be more expensive to re-sign than Monahan. Monahan might be seen as more of a risk with only one (potential) good season to prove his injuries are behind him.
Also maybe other teams will be thrown off like I was when I saw Monahan's Forecaster page say he announced his retirement in August the day he was traded.

Everything is in place to repeat, especially once they get a top 6 forward at the deadline.
They will sleepwalk trough long streches of the regular season and try to flip the switch once the games mean something. Pretty much what happened last year only this time they might not have the hunger after winning it all.

A slow start might not be the worst thing as it'll mean that they're high in the waiver claim order to be able to pick a decent player up, like what happened last year with NAK.

I definitely agree. Last off-season was underwhelming, and Colorado dealt with covid/injuries to start the season.
I got really bored the other day and looked up all the opening night line-ups and line combos (per Dobber, my memory, and light research) since the 2018 rebirth. For those interested...
Define worth a shit? Worth a buriable contract as depth? Or worth a spot on a roster? The depth, maybe a few guys. Worth a spot on the roster, not really... maybe Boyle as a depth guy to step in on the 4th line from time to time.
Honestly I don't think I can say this team is better now than it was in October 2022. It was bad enough to have 3C by committee, but now both 2C AND 3C are up in the air. There's a lot of uncertainty behind MacKinnon on the depth chart at present, which could end up being a big problem.
That said, I'm not begrudging the decisions made this offseason. When you go for it, sometimes a price has to be paid. I'm hopeful the team is good enough to make it to the deadline and they can reassess what to do from there.

Yup... add in the uncertainty in net too. Kuemper for all of his faults, was a known entity as a starter, it was just about health. Now we have two guys who are unknowns as starters and in Frank's case, health is still a question.
It will be interesting to watch this team over the first 20-25 games to see how it goes and what questions are answered.

I think we’ll be better if we have a strange year where we’re a lot healthier. I don’t see that happening and I think without Kadri we’re less equipped to deal with injuries so I could see us being worse but still a top 5 team. Frankie went like 15-5 with a .916 last season. Colorado makes goalies look way better than they are.
If Byram stays healthy our defense is going to be alot better than it was last year. Game 1 we have a better defence than last year, better depth vs much worse 2C and I think goaltending is less proven but I think you can argue George atleast has some upside.
They've weathered injuries before, though if they lose MacKinnon for any extended period of time (he will most certainly miss SOME time at some point in the season) they're in pretty big trouble this time.

He's a smart guy... you don't need to be fast to play fast. I'm not saying he'd be great, but as a 4th liner who can help on the PK... he could add value. I wouldn't go out of my way to add him. He's just a guy who can play a role on a team still. Many of the other guys can't.

Personally I'd pass on signing anymore guys unless they're on a two-way deal to maintain the ability to roll a 21 man roster and accrue as much cap space as possible.
The exception that I'd make is if someone good appears on waivers who might be worth picking up, like Zetterlund or PO Joseph for instance. Even then it probably makes more sense to try to do a prospect swap for those guys after they've passed through waivers instead of claiming them and having a 22+ man roster for at least 30 days.

There seems to be a gaggle of posters here that want CMac to sign someone(s) to a PTO, and after I saw Pagnotta's tweet, I was just asking if there was anyone worth a shit left to sign to a PTO?
I think CMac is done for this offseason, barring a surprise trade in the next couple weeks. This is the team they will start the season with.
