I meant your comment that Manson is barely better than Jack Johnson and that people will see that they are wrong. Coloring that indirectly, by saying anyone who thinks differently does it because they are Avs fan and not objective, as opposed to you.

Nope, most certainly not. He'll end up somewhere between 11 and 12, which, in my eyes, is absolutly a "fair" salary for a player like him in todays - still flat-cap-ish - NHL.

Nah the last comment was regarding people who think Colorado is a better team this year. Nothing to do with Manson per se.
Which has everything to do with the 2C spot. Going from Naz to Rodrigues is a massive decline. Where everything else in the roster is largely equal give or take 0.5 wins in a couple spots. But going from Naz to ERod is like ~3.5 wins of lost value.
It is objectively a worse team then last year for that one switch alone.

I wonder if Mack ends up signing for exactly double what he's making now. If the $6.3M had any significance number wise for him, doubling it would be a reasonable direction to go.

I 100% agree that our 2C is a weakness. And probably even 3C. How is that a fact tho? Just something that’s very likely. 2 of Erod, Newhook, Meyers, Compher could put up 35+ points at C leaving us with a bad 2C and average 3C. There’s probably like a 5% chance if it happening but it’s not a fact that someone like Newhook just doesn’t pop off at C. Not something I’d bet on at this point but you can’t just say it’s a fact it won’t happen.
I personally think health will play the biggest factor. We’re not as well equipped to survive the injury bug. I think the defence is much stronger this season tho and the goalies are going to surprise people playing behind it. I don’t think we win as many games as last year unless we get perfect health but I think we’ll still hit 110ish points.
Would make for the league's oldest 4th line, that's for sure.
He didn't do great in the faceoff circle last season but I think he could help out in that department.
Honestly doesn't seem like it's worth the trouble but he's yet another big body (cue Hasbro) who can plant himself in front of the net and score a few goals. If the Avs think he's worth it, go ahead.

I was never worried. I would be if it ends up being June 30th, 2023 and there's no deal in place, but any time before then? No issues.

3C isn't a major weakness, since Meyers, Rodrigues, and Compher (who showed he can handle it in the playoffs) are capable 3C's. But yeah, 2C is a major hole.

I think you're oversimplifying, but I don't disagree to the point of saying they are better this year.
But I think when you compare starting line-up last year with this year you also have to attribute value to growth of young players and decline of older players. And I think growth in Byram and to a lesser extent Newhook shouldn't be understated.
You could easily see a situation where last year's 2nd D pairing of Girard-EJ becomes this year's 3rd pair and you had a new 2nd pairing of Byram-Manson. That isn't just comparing Manson to Jack Johnson, its a potentiel incremental improvement on each of the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Dman.
Combined with Lehk for Bura, Meyer for Jost and Cog for... whichever AHLer played before we claimed NAK, the sum of it all is getting close to Kadri for Rodrigues and Kuemper for Georgiev in my opinion.

I would agree the last year's 2C is significantly better than this year's projected 2C. Was the 3C last year significantly better than this year's projected 3C?
