Based off last year alone it’s an overpayment for sure. But he ended the year unreal and he should take a pretty big jump here. Could easily see a 70+ point season out him next year.Bit of an overpayment today but Jimmy could make that look like a complete steal as early as year 1 honestly.
Sens have a very bright future.
Individually, sure, but they're tied to 5 players for the next 6-7 years at 50% of their cap. They haven't even threatened for a playoff spot yet.I love that deal by Ottawa. When the cap rises that’s going to age really well. Pretty sure he was PPG when he got moved to C and he’ll be playing with much better wingers this year.

Kinda like the Mack deal but betting on the player a little bit more in this scenario.I mean we’ll see. I like there future a lot but ya they haven’t proven anything yet.
To me Stuztle just would have cost more if they waited. I could see his big breakout being this year with the wingers he’ll be playing with. He really took off last year once he started playing C.

Yup. If Stutzle doesn’t pan out than the Sens aren’t going anywhere anyways. It’s a risk that’s worth taking.Or the Hughes deal. Which I think I stupidly was concerned about. The caps going to eventually rise and all those deals will be great.
Honestly in a cap world I think locking up your young stars with term is your best bet. Ottawa is living and dying with Stutzle no matter what. He’s on pace to break out. I roll that dice every time now.
I would have done the same with Byram this off-season but I can understand Colorado being nervous about his injury history.
Maybe you can get Formenton cheapIs it the right time to approach them about a new trade?
Do you think Bernard-Docker has top 4 potential? I know he’s certainly not going to make a huge difference offensively, but I feel he could potentially be a good compliment to Sanderson or Chabot stylistically.Ottawa is simply ride or dying with their core. Love that they are locking them in and think they'll be steals very soon. They need a longer term goalie and a top 4 RD (or move one over in the future).
Yeah I'm a fan of JBD... I even think there is more offense than people give him credit for. Him and Lassi are going to be battling for a top 4 spot and while Lassi has more flaws, he has a lot more flash.Do you think Bernard-Docker has top 4 potential? Who would you target as a return piece?Sam Girard would also be a really good fit in Ottawa. Someone who can play both sides and can play bigger minutes. He'd also do a lot for Ottawa's transition game.
Thought so. Gotta get a center if Girard is moved.Shane Pinto

Yeah. Pinto isn't a guaranteed 2C by any means either, but I think he's got a reasonable shot to hit that level and with Ottawa locking up Tim and Norris long term, they dont have any spots left in the Top 6.
I highly doubt we make a trade like that 4 days before training camp but for conversations sake, I think something like:
Pinto + Thomson/JBD + 2024 2nd(WSH) + Hamonic(Cap dump) for Girard would be pretty fair.
Pinto/Thomson is the return for Girard. The 2nd is basically compensation for taking on Hamonic in the deal as well.
That would leave Ottawa with about $5M left to re-sign Formentom still. For us, we'd gain even more cap space which we don't really need, but it would make us extremely dangerous come trade deadline. Gaining two more good prospects and a 2nd round pick, any of which could be used as trade bait again and even more cap space to make such trades. Something few other contenders could do without also sending salary out.
Historical status quo. A few young players and a future 4th overall pic.Who would you target as a return piece?
Gourde? If Horvat re-signs, I don't see very many 'ideal' 2Cs out there. By that I mean, young enough to fit the core's age here while being reasonably priced. You have some older guys like ROR (who might make it to UFA next year) and maybe St Louis has their season blow up. Or Scheifele. You have the washed up in Toews. The guys who are younger, but a part of somebody else's core like Larkin. It kinda is leaving with the guys you're not as excited about (Bennett though I do love his game or Hayes) or guys you are taking a risk on (Pinto).
The line has frequently been that the Avs will trade for a 2C if it doesn't get solved internally, but I'm seeing less and less viable options. They are either going to come at an extreme cost or will be meh/risky.
I appreciate your idea, but my first reaction is a bit critical:
Trading Girard and not getting a surefire 2C back would be extremely risky. Pinto might have potential, but Avs can't afford to bet on potential in the last year of MacKinnon's good contract and Byrams ELC.
Those extra picks/prospects aren't the sort of assets that entice a team trading a 2C at the deadline either, even if they're solid assets.
Hamonic has wanted to stay in Canada to be close to his family, and has an 8 team NTC, so he probably wouldn't be too happy to be in Colorado.
Maybe I'm being a bit negative there but that's my first impression anyhow.
He falls in the meh side... Everyone should know I love Gourde and he's capable in a pinch to be a 2C, but he shouldn't be a 2C on a contender. He should be slotted as an elite 3C.Gourde?
