I seriously doubt Byram would accept a max term contract at 5.5-6mAt this point a reasonable AAV for Byram long-term is $5.5M - 6M X 8. The Avs are banking on his continued evolution based on the end of his season + playoffs but his 19 points in 49 games in the regular season or 9 points in 20 games played in the playoffs shouldn't make a long-term contract more expensive than that. At some point, Byram would need to look at a guarantee of close to $50M and decide if he really wants MORE before he reaches the age of 30.
His agent might have other ideas though. Going the bridge route for 2 years would see him paid less for now but likely a lot more over time - that is of course, as long as he stays healthy.
That's too high for now but might not be after next season. The Avs are taking on a ton of risk and for that reason it should probably come down. There is a sweet spot there between what other top guys have shown at that age and signed for and what Byram was able to show at the end of the season and the playoffs. I believe it's $5.5 - $6M on a long-term deal. Remains to be seen if he'd sign that though.
Stastny was never fast. He’s also got an absolutely useless shot.Even at 3C? I haven’t watched staz for a long long time so genuine question. The consensus definitely seems to be that he’s slow.
Hartley was right about DICK Matvichuk deserving the Norris.Ratvichuk throwing Foppa into the boards seperating his shoulder ended that series in 99.
I’d of course prefer Lundell or Reinhart but problem is that Lundell is untouchable and Reinhart would cost more in assets (and cap space). I also feel like Reinhart’s more of a winger while Bennett is a center.I hope not . Maybe it’s just me but Bennett even with slightly better stats in Florida ,doesn’t strike me as particularly dynamic . Reinhart would be better but don’t think Florida would trade him …
Best Florida guys to get in order should be Lundell, Reinhart, Bennett

What’s made him effective his career was his brains and his passing. He doesn’t skate fast, but he plays and thinks the game quickly. He also loves to score dirty rebound goals around the goal mouth.
What I always loved about him was his passing. It was just that he was a great passer, it was that he knew when to pass. The guy just knows when to hit a player with a pass.
I can see him working well because he’s be surrounded by hard working players.

I think FL has to (and will) do something else. What that is I’m not sure. They of course need a top 4 dman and also need to shed a little cap.Yeah. But why would Florida?
I get the cap space side of things. But I feel like a Bennett/Newhook swap doesn’t do much for them. If they moved Bennett it’d have to be for a dman.I think FL has to (and will) do something else. What that is I’m not sure. They of course need a top 4 dman and also need to shed a little cap.
Trading Bennett for Newhook is a bit of a gamble (for both teams) but gives the panthers a cheap middle 6 guy with promise, as well as cap relief they could theoretically put towards another dman.
And just say no to Evan Rodrigues.
Seriously people this isn't a Nichushkin situation where he's all of a sudden a late bloomer. He had a good half season. 30 points in his first 41 games. 13 points in his final 41.
I've said it a thousand times: just because players are available doesn't mean you bring them in. If Kadri doesn't return, just run some combination of Compher/Newhook/Meyers as your 2/3 centres until you can figure out an external solution via trade.
How do we think the core felt about that?Stastny publicly stated he wanted to stay even at a discount, and then walked off and signed a contract with our rival.
How do we think Sakic and the core feel about that? Oh so now that he's old he can jump right on the wagon headed for the promise land when he chose himself over the team and a reasonable contract?
At one point Mack looked up to him.
I think Staz wanted to come back last chance he had, and Sakic said no to being part of another one of his UFA pay days.
Goddamn Hatcher and Matvichuk. I cackled with glee when they were ushered out early in 2001.
He's slow. He will look like he's skating at half speed compared to the rest of the team. Plus he's very injury prone and there's a 50/50 chance he'll even be in the lineup by the time playoffs roll around.I don’t see any problem in adding Stastny. He adds more depth and good mojo on the way to Cup 2.
Meh. Maybe, maybe not. I know if I was a player on that 13-14 team like MacKinnon and we just won the division as an up-and-coming team I'd be a little pissed off that my linemate spurned us for our division rival. Can’t imagine there’s any ill will towards Stastny.
He didn’t demand a trade like Duchene. Completely different situation.
Also, the roster is almost entirely different from when he was with the team.
