Anyone who thinks that Avs are in a better spot now than they were last year is out to lunch.

We will regress without a real 2C and goaltender is a ? At this point. Unless MacK and Makar just backpack us we probably won't win the Division.

St Louis and Minnesota could easily finish higher than us at this point. Especially if 8 or 29 misses any time.

I don't think playoffs will be too big an issue, making a deep run is going to a challenge.

Think about the years we didn't have Kadri as the 2C option, and that's about where we are. We'll be solid, but come playoffs the lack of a 2C will expose us.

He's justified in going for as much as he can regardless. His level of play has been elite the entirety of that contract. Doesn't matter if he was making league minimum, $6 million, or $10 million. "Lowballing' him with the previous offer or not has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Objectively the Avs are in a worse spot, but you can't easily dispute if someone feels they could be better given the strong youth this team has.

Newhook improving and full time with Lekh could replace Kadri and Bura.
Byram improving (and healthy) and full time with Manson could be an improvement on the defense from last year.
Georgie shouldn't be an improvement on Kemps, but the Avs don't really need an improvement there unless they want the President's trophy.

ANY depth growth at all from LOC, Kaut, OO or literally anyone would be an improvement there too.

Our day 1 roster is worse this year without Kadri for sure. I think there will be some things that can help with the regression tho. How much does Newhook improve? Do we get playoff Bo for 60+ games? Do we finally get a decent season in terms of health.

Being slightly more healthy this season would go a long way. Landy played 50ish games, Bo 30. G, Mackinnon, Toews, Kadri, Nuke all missed a good chunk of games. We had JJ in net for almost 10 games. Frankie went 15-5-1 so it’s not like we weren’t winning with him. If George can play to that level with our defense it'll be fine.

I think we’ll need to pickup a 2C for the playoffs but I think we’ll be fine in the regular season.

For everybody saying Rodrigues is Compher 2.0, would you not sign Compher if he was available right now as a UFA given our centre depth?

Unless there’s some type of other move in the works I’d be all over a high end 3C like Rodrigues. I think he’s better than Compher anyway but even if he wasn’t I’d have no issue adding another depth piece to the middle of the ice.

IDK man. Wasn't Sakic really close with Stastny's dad? And Sakic has always been a players GM. I'd be pretty surprised if Sakic and co are still walking around with a grudge, especially after just winning the cup, because Paul did what was best for him.

Can't help but think there's a little bad blood there, but in reality there's likely just a lot of apathy.

The Canes needed him more than the Avs--he's really more of a winger than a center these days.

I still remember Roy's reaction when he was asked about Stastny leaving to a division rival. It really sounded like they were led to believe something and Stastny did something else...so they lost him for nothing.

Sakic isn't Roy but if Roy was indeed fooled by Stastny's camp then so was Sakic.

Stastny has been rumored to come back like 3 times since he left, him signing elsewhere for 1 year 1.5M means that we simply don't want him back.
