Time to trade the last picks the Avs have at the draft and then the guys can go back to partying. Why are they even at the draft now, lol.
Seriously, as this point you send the assistant GM and have Sakic leave a voicemail for their picks that they can play for their parents: "Mom! Dad! A hall of famer called me!"

Going cheap in net with Georgiev might be an indication that the Avs need the capspace because Nichuskin is getting paid...
It better be. Or that Manson may be coming back. Georgiev I'll give the scouts and Sakic the benefit of the doubt, but he always appeared to me anyway as a quality backup but not really starter material. Hope I'm wrong. At least Sakic didn't wait up for the free agency to start this year, so there's that. I'm sure there is more coming via trade for the Avs.

The price of letting Grubauer go:

1st
3 3rds
5th
Timmins

But yeah, they got a cup so who cares. Might not have been able to add Manson without the $2.5m savings in met either btw..
Yep, wasn't cheap. Gotta think there is a plan to get some of those picks back, whether that's trading rights to guys like Kuemper, Kadri, Bura, Manson, or Nuke, trading prospects like Kaut or Bowers, Annunen, or roster players like Girard or JTC.

If the Avs run it back and manage to keep Kadri, Nuke, and Manson (or sign a replacement 3rd pair d man) — just losing Helm and Bura….. =win?

Watched a fair number of Rangers games due to my dad being one. Georgiev is a terrible backup. You want him playing bigger minutes. He gets inside his own head and can get really cold. He's better when playing regularly (and a lot of Rags fans have been echoing the sentiment in the trade thread).

He's a serviceable starter. He's mostly here because he saves us $3M.

You're not wrong... But good luck at the deadline with damn near zero draft capital to spend.
This is why the Avs need to be doing everything possible to work with Kadri/Burakovsky/Kuemper and send them to teams they prefer to play with in exchange for late round picks.

Even if you're only getting back 5th/6th round picks, it all helps.

If we're gonna retain the skaters we want to keep we had to cut somewhere. Avs grab a goalie thats still young with upside and can maybe keep a Kadri or a Manson along with Nuke. The boys showed they can win without insane goaltending.

I think Manson is as good as gone. Wife from Cali and he seems to want to go back "home" whether it's Anaheim or L.A.

I think Sakic makes Nichushkin priority #1 with a late pitch to Kadri to see if he'll be willing to stay at a "discounted" rate (even though it won't be a discount).

Joe and the pro scouting staff have been able to find some solid gems. If Joe (and presumably the scouts) have been chasing after Georgiev for such a long time, they must see something in him that they think they can work with.

What are the odds Georgiev just signs his QO at 1x2.65M in an attempt to become the Avs next overpaid UFA goalie next summer as opposed to signing something like 2/3x3M?

This trade to me feels like it's getting a guy who can potentially be a decent starter and also getting Nichushkin a buddy so that he'll want to sign here?
