Rumor: 2022-2023 Trade Rumors and Free Agency: Let’s Run it Back!

I'm going to keep my Bergeron dream alive until he's officially re-signed with Boston or retired. He's by far one of my favourite players in the league that isn't on the Avs and would be an incredible addition to this squad.

Dare to dream, but imagining a line of Lehkonen-Begeron-Nuke has to be an opposing teams worst nightmare.

I keep telling myself there are small enough cracks that this could come to fruition. He was a Nords fan, apparently a huge fan of Burnaby Joe, Boston isn't looking the hottest for next season...c'mon Joe, make another miracle happen.

At those numbers it’s probably a wash. I’d take Kuemper I guess. However I expect Fleury to be willing to take less than 2 to play in Colorado while I think Kuemper costs more.

I think it’s more like Fleury at 2M vs Kuemper at 5.5

This is also how I see it.

Though even Fleury @~3m versus Kuemper at @5M.... I'd just as well rather take a chance on Fleury. But I think Fleury will sign for dirt cheap it the Avs show interest because I think he wants to win.

And getting Fleury @2M for example gives a loooooot of cap space for the 2nd line in free agency. At that point I would definitely look at Forsberg.

I’m with Frank as a starter. Give Justus a real test as a backup and then obtain someone with experience before trade deadline.
I said this but with some context. Start the season with him as the guy. If he's just ok most of the season make a trade at the deadline. But doing this allows you to have more money for Val, Bura, Manson, Kadri.

If Frank is awesome all year great. If not, make a trade at the deadline and it doesn't hit your cap much

A Frankie/Annunen tandem would not be good. Frankie is a good/fine backup for us, but he is not a starting goaltender. Justus is years away IF he'll ever be an NHL goalie to begin with.

If we are truly in a "Cup window", that would be one way to utterly waste a year of it.

LeBrun says Kuemper/Colorado is going to be the first domino on the goalie market. It sounds like a lot of goalies want to play in Colorado which sounds promising, both in terms of contract talks as well as in terms of the market (hopefully) being more patient with Sakic than last year when all the goalies signed quickly instead of waiting it out to see if they could sign in Colorado (eg. Andersen).

There's a lot to like about MAF coming over as a FA. If he signs it'll be cheap and he'll give the team a new driving force to repeat this year. And coming to a team with his best and last shot to win a Cup would certainly give him extra motivation to perform. Just gotta hope his body holds up.

Do you really want to be in the same position Edmonton find themselves in every single season... scraping the playoffs and looking for a starter at the TDL when prices are at their highest?

Though I would bet Sakic is not as patient this time around. He wants the Kuemper contract either done fast or not at all, so he doesn't end up in the position we were last season where he had to scramble to get a goalie.

I would imagine that Kuemper is signed before the weekend, or not at all. Sakic won't let this drag to free agent frenzy.

There's zero chance we'll run with Frank/Annunen next year unless we're hit with injuries. If it's not Darcy it'll be someone else. We're a hot location now, especially for goaltenders.

Yeah, goalies have seen with Grubauer and Kuemper how one good season behind this Avs defense can bloat your stats and (at least in Grubauer's case) turn into a fat payday. No wonder they're keen to play for this team.

I love Frankie but honestly, a Frankie/Annunen would legitimately be one way the Avs struggle to make playoffs next year.
I don't think we would not make the playoffs (we made JoJo look like an NHL goalie) but it would end cup aspirations unless we were gifted a goalie at the TDL.

Yep. Another thing to consider is that last year Sakic also had the Landeskog and Makar raises looming large, so he had no choice but to be frugal with the goalie situation because he didn't know exactly how much he'd need for Landeskog and Makar until they were both signed. Can't hand out $5m+ to a goalie if your captain wants $8m+ and Makar wants $10m.

This year there's a bit more flexibility with no enormous contracts to hand out, though Nichuskin's figures to be pretty big.

Fleury @$2M
Trocheck @$5.5M
Forsberg @$8.5M
Lehkonen @$4M
Nuke @$5.5M
Edler @$1.75M

Trade Girard to NYI for 2023 1st + 2023 2nd + Scott Mayfield

Nuke - Mack - Mikko
Landy - Trocheck - Forsberg
Lehky - JTC - Newhook
LOC - Meyers - Cogliano

By my count that's about $81.8M

Ha, pretty damn good

Hopefully we come to terms with DK and it's a reasonable contract (4x5M or something around that), none of the alternatives are any better than him (MAF included).

I'm all for economic goaltending. But there's ballsy, and then there's insanity... this would be crossing the line into insanity.

Francouz is talented, but he's never started the 57 games Kuemper did last year at any level (KHL, AHL, NHL, etc.) and clearly has health concerns. Annunen did not look ready last year in his brief NHL work and he was mediocre in the AHL (3.01 GAA, .892 SV%).

These two dudes cannot be called on to defend of Colorado's Stanley Cup next season.

Not that I think it would happen because I doubt Joe is a big player for multiple free agents at once...

But I do think its a good quick example of just how much flexibility the Avs do have right now, especially if you can get Fleury to sign for really cheap. That extra $3M saved on a starting goalie by getting Fleury would go a very long way towards brining back an absolutely nasty Top 6 forward group again.

That would be stellar off-season. I might go after Kulak over Edler though.
