Sakic should be all over Georgiev. Shouldn't cost too many assets, give them Kadri's rights or something and then sign him for ~2.5m then platoon him with Frankie. We already proved we can win the cup with a sieve in net, why not double down
I don't know about Georgiev specifically but using Kadri's rights as an asset to get a goalie would be some top tier GM'ing from Sakic.

8 teams and only 2 legit starters available: Kuemper and Campbell.

Worst season ever to be a top team without a starting goalie and to be very low on trading chips. Girard for Gibson swap is our best option at this point.

Haha, I mean he didn't even play all the games he could have played in so we really haven't seen him. He looked pretty decent, scrappy on the puck for sure, but all the things I read about him and his compete level make me think he's going to be a decent bottom six guy who has the things the Avs value.
By chance you got the winning lottery numbers?

Slight change of topic, but what do people think about Nick Schmaltz as our potential 2C if Kadri leaves?
I'm basing this on the assumption that everyone on the Coyotes is for sale and I assume it would cost at least Newhook+ to do it.
Schmaltz has put up good numbers on a terrible Coyotes team (0.73 points per game over the past three seasons and a respectable 23 goals and 36 assists last season - although that was with a 19% shooting percentage). He's 26, 6'0, and shoots right, and he's signed for four more years at 5.85m.

One thing about Smatlz is his real dollar cost is lower than his cap hit and I think playing in a college arena will be looking to be the hollowest floor team in history.

I don’t think kadri will be here next year. It’ll be his last shot at making huge bucks. Would love to see him in an Avs jersey though. Nuke is a no brainier and I’d rather have him and Manson here then kadri but that’s just me. Keep Frankie as the number 1 and see what’s out there at the deadline.

Agreed with you about Kadri. Feel like Montreal or Philly are going to overpay him massively, we are talking 7 years and close to 10 AAV

10M X 7 to 32 yo Kadri? What?? There's just no f***ing way any team offers that. It would become instantly the worst contract in the NHL hands down.

Teams have done stupendously stupid things before. He just paced for 100ish points, he’s got that grit factor. Some desperate team is going to massively overpay for him and it’ll immediately be recognized as a bad deal.

Not at that level no, at least not in the cap era.

This easily beats Skinner/Bobrovsky/Neal/Lucic

Gibson sucks though. That’s a downgrade or lateral at best. Campbell has better numbers but I’m suspicious of him too. Why is Toronto giving up on him if they consider themselves contenders?

Probably a money / term issue

Surprised about Gibson , just based on the eye test at least, he looks good, athletic.

Don’t see Sakic letting Nuke walk. I do wonder what you think on Gauthier wanting out in New York? Seems like a guy who would fit this team with his speed and size, could be another Nuke in the making?
The size and speed are there, but he doesn't seem to have the game to fit a bottom 6 role, especially on a contender. It's telling that NYR who have been moving towards size a lot lately are giving up on him. (Edit: for a late pick or prospect swap maybe it would be worth a gamble as Sakic's annual reclamation project).

Another size and speed winger who could be interesting is Miles Wood, if NJ decide against QO'ing him (that would be somewhat surprising however). Not sure Avs will have cap to spend on a bottom 6 winger like him though unless Nichuskin walks.

Another name to consider if Helm/Cogliano walk would be Colin Blackwell. He has good speed, can chip in offense in a 4th line role, and with good analytics he'll certainly be on the Avs radar.

I'm not touching Miles Wood after the major surgery he had.

I’d rather go for Motte but Blackwell would be a good pick up too.

I think they both might retire. Both 35.
RIAL who knows Cogliano said a couple of days ago that he wants to try to get a two year deal but his preference his to stay in Colorado even for one year... Which obviously suggests that he's not retiring.

Depends on the contract. Obviously a multi year deal in the high 2's or 3's would be risky. But if you can get him on a cheap one year 'prove it' deal where he bets on himself to break out then it may be worth the risk.

Motte would be great, and is definitely on the Avs pro scouts radar due to his speed, transition metrics, forechecking, tenacity, PK, playoff experience, etc, but he's also probably going to want to cash in with a ~$2.5m X 2-3 year deal which would probably be a bit too rich for the Avs.

I posted this before, take it with a grain of salt, but I don't think he's a center.

He's always flip flopped between RW and C because he's terrible at face-offs and not great defensively. But this year in particular he mostly played RW.
Hm. That certainly makes him less attractive. I wish websites would actually list players based on where they played most in their most recent season.
A little surprising. Seems like he has been trade bait for a few years now.
Boeser apparently had a really good reaction to Boudreau joining the team, so that whole narrative changed this year.

Campbell is an injury-prone head case who has never been a starter before this year. Outside of one incredibly hot month he was pretty bad. Seems to bring it in the playoffs, but he's also incredibly hard on himself. I don't want him anywhere near this Avalanche team. We're a team that is able to flush a loss (or a win) quickly and move on - Campbell dwells on things and blames himself for every mistake.

I have been adamant that Georgiev is not the type of goalie the Avs should target. But you know f*** it. I guess when it comes down to it I'd be fine with Frankie/Georgie tandem if that enables us to hold on to more UFAs of our team.

I think Georgiev would be thrilled to sign here, buddies with Rantanen.

Gauthier would be a great fit here for the regular season. His game fits a bottom 6 role on the Avs which is about hustling and creating pressure - the size is just a bonus. New York wants gritty bottom 6 players that can goon it up like Reaves, Blais, etc. and hit everything in sight.

I agree I wouldn't pay much for him, but i'd be more than happy to swap Kaut for him. Blackwell is kind of meh, I think the only slot i'd have interest for him is the 3rd line if Newhook gets traded.
