Here's how I'm viewing the Avs off-season :

Nichushkin : prior to the playoffs, I think his value was around $5M per year for 6-8 years. After the playoffs and all the exposure to those east coast dildos who can't be bothered to watch late games, he has certainly brought up his stock to where the Avs will likely have to pay at minimum $6M X 6 yrs. Even though he has said that he realizes that 'fit' is important, I could see him going to market all the while giving the Avs the chance to match (bad news) and some team coming up with an insane offer ($7M X 7 yrs) that won't work long-term for the Avs. I hope McSakicland are pro-active and have plans B and C ready to execute if they see that they can't come to an agreement prior to free agency. Matching the best offer he gets in free agency is not a great strategy.
IF they lose Nuke, I'd love for them to get Mikheyev.

Kadri : I think the Avs would love to keep him but he already was on a super cheap deal and it's just extremely obvious that he wants to ca$h-in and no-one can blame him for that. I'm sure he wants to do it with the Avs, but the term and overall $$$ won't make sense. The most I could see the Avs offer him is 4 yrs X $6.5M and at that point, he'd be leaving A LOT of money on the table. Goodbye Naz, you'll always be remembered for that crazy Game #4 overtime goal... you have cemented your place in Avalanche Hockey History forever!

Kuemper : The Avs paid a big price to bring him in and it worked, he's a Stanley Cup Champion! He dealt with injuries and had up-and-down play but at the same time, he had a metric ton of pressure on him in some of those games and especially in Game #6 and was able to put forth good performances. The reason why I think the Avs will want to re-sign him is that now, he's been there and done it and will likely be better next time around. I could see the Avs offering him a $5M X 4 yrs contract. If that's not enough and he wants to maximize his value like grubauer did then, I'm sure he won't have trouble finding a team to pay him more. If that's the case, I could see the Avs turn to Husso in a big-time FU move to the bLose as if to say, we're going to beat you again and this time, with your scapegoat goalie as well!

Manson : I see him as a lesser priority and a nice to have but I think he's going to want to maximize his $$$ though, so I expect him to sign with another team as a UFA. Not sure I see the Avs offering him any kind of deal that nears the $4M AAV mark.

Lekhonen (RFA) : I don't think this is a hard deal to make. I think the Avs re-up him to a 4 or 5 yr deal at an AAV of about $4.25M.

Cogliano : Another easy deal to make. He was awesome and fits this team really well.

Helm : Another guy who turned it up a few notches in the playoffs - great to see. Unless he's retiring, bring him back for sure.

Trades :
Can't wait to see how the Avs manage this off-season and who they bring in. I really think they're going to make a deal for a 2C whether that's Barzal, Horvat or Gourde remains to be seen as each of those guys would require a different set of assets that the Avs might or might not be willing to part with.

Agree with most of that.

One thing I wonder about with the 35+ vets in depth role is how hungry they're gonna be to put their bodies on the line as much again, considering that they've now won and their additional earnings won't be hugely impactful to their lifestyle with regards to how much they've already earned. It could be good to get some hungry guys in those roles who the team can rally around to win a cup for, just like Cogliano this year.

As for possible Nichuskin replacements if he walks, along with Mikheyev, Marchment would also probably be another guy to take a look at, though I'd be a bit wary of him being a one-hit wonder on an offensive powerhouse last year if he's asking for too much.

Copp is a natural center that hasn't had a chance to show he can or can't be a 2C. Worst case you have a 2nd line winger that can sub in center for stretches. Best case he's a good 2C that can be relied on in both ends. Quite the risk to take IMO, but absent other choices (Trocheck should be the first UFA option) he'd be worth a shot over the internal options.

Even if it turns out that Copp can't play center he could probably do the Landeskog role next to MacKinnon given that he's a LHS who's good at faceoffs and board battles, which would allow you to drop Landeskog to the 2nd line to play a pseudo-center role to insulate whoever is the defacto 2C out of Rantanen/Compher/Newhook. Not an ideal situation obviously, but Copp's faceoffs and two way play would at least provide options.

Said it before and will say it a thousand times more:

Christian Dvorak is not a good hockey player. Would not want him anywhere near the 2C role and would rather go through a good 15-20 options internally/externally before giving him a sniff at 3C.

Stay away from that player.
Agreed, he is terrible. He's a cow (slow and lazy). Only good to score on tap ins, if he has playmaking wingers.

Two-year deal with better offensive numbers. We don't need to be handing out term to Lehkonen.

We should absolutely lock up lehkonen, having two way players like that is essential. Especially in the playoffs. 5 years should be the goal, he changes the entire dynamic of a line and can play anywhere in the lineup.

The core with Nichushkin and lehkonen on the wings is a contender every year. Lehkonen puts up 45+ points and dominates defensively and on the forecheck in the top 6, guaranteed.

And Lehk scored at a 30 goal pace the second he got here. EVERYONE on this board would keep Lehk over Bura and I'm sur ehe knows that too.

A 30 goal pace over 16 games? That’s not going to have any impact on negotiations. He also only had 3 assists in that time.

Honestly, I hope Sakic isn’t as willing to hand the bag over to Lehkonen as a lot of people on this board seem willing to do. Should be able to grind him into the high 3’s, or low 4’s pretty comfortably, with him being a RFA.

TBH he's looked like ass all season except the playoffs.
he looked like ass for half the playoffs lol due to whatever that was he caught at the end of the reg. He only started to play well in the Edmonton and Tampa series. If he showed up against the Blues they would have swept them again.

Didn't see this one coming...

Thought for sure he was a goner.

Did you not see his playoff performance or something? That’s the only time of the year that matters. Lock him up at 4.5-4.75 for 5 years without hesitation.

What do we think Meyers floor and ceiling is? Is he our future 4C? Or better as a bottom 6 wing? Or maybe AHL tweener

One thought on Kuemper. Every Avs goalie since Varly has had rough points in their first season on the team.

If Kuemper returns do folks think he can find some consistency?
