Does anyone think it's obvious that Joe was disappointed in Kuemper. He have up a 1st and Timmons (firs time trading a first). Then the following summer, he says, "that's the last time I pay a premium like that".

Honestly, this is a shrewd decision. Georgiev is young with some upside. The fact that the Avs went younger on Kuempers replacement makes me wonder if the term expected from Kuemper was too much of a pill to swallow?

Kuemper, 32, who had a .921 save-percentage and a 2.54 goals-against average in 57 games with the Avs last season, will have no issue finding another job. The belief is the Edmonton Oilers will be the most serious team in pursuit once he hits the market next Wednesday.

The Oilers have also been linked with Toronto Maple Leafs’ free agent netminder Jack Campbell, but Kuemper has a better pedigree and will likely be of more interest to GM Ken Holland.

Kuemper will be looking for a deal in the $6 million range per-season.

With Fluery re-signing in Minnesota it is pretty clear the bidding war for goalies is going to be high. The move for Georgiev already looks better 12 hours later. I thought Sakic was all class when talking about Kuemper and its clear his priorities are to get Mack extended and hopefully hold on to players he values.

I'm thinking back to when the Avs lost Barrie and how upset a lot of fans were. I didn't get it. Now with Nichushkin, if he were to leave then I would not be happy at all.

Might make sense to do this now to make adjustments to cap space. Mack being wrapped up is one less thing to deal with later.

And Mack being wrapped up is one less thing to deal with now if Manson or Nuke want discussions about term.

I'm guessing here. Many of you know more about how these go than I do. If I'm misreading it, let me know.

If for whatever reason we can't re-up Nuke that's when Kane would become interesting. What sucks is giving up assets for him though.

I wasn't lying earlier...GM's absolutely love this guy.

What assets do we have though to land Kane? We would have to give up a ton and we already have bare cubbards.
Realistically the only worthy assets we have left are Girard, 2 first round picks and Newhook. For Kane at 50% I think Chicago would ask for a 1st and Newhook.
