I do hope Joe fins a way to send Darcy's rights somewhere.

Its clear as day now he isn't being re-signed. We obviously wont get much for them but we have so little draft capital that any pick is worth adding.

Even if he doesn't find something this year, yeah for this draft we only have a 6th and 7th, but we also only have 1st, 5th, 6th, and 7th next year, and only a 1st, 4th, 6th, and 7th in 2024 as well.

Adding say a 2023 4th for Darcy and a 2023 5th for Burakovsky's rights would help a little bit. Gives some capital for the deadline most importantly. Might only be useful for small additions, but small additions can have big impacts, just look at Cogliano.

Found one article discussing UFA rights:

Did we trade for Soderberg's ufa rights? Totally forgot about that.

Basically, anything from a 3rd round picks to 7th. Not bad!

At $5 million AAV
Yikes. I was hoping he would take a low deal for a cup run, but he already has a cup, so money over Cup.

I think there's still too many goalies available and in the air right now. Don't think GMs are feeling desperate yet. Need another couple of goalies to re-sign first.

Maybe, but Kuemper is a top option for a lot of teams.

I would guess all of Toronto, Edmonton, and New Jersey have him towards the top of the list. Could easily see either team giving up a late pick to get something done before everyone else. New Jersey has three 4th round picks this year. They would be my pick for a team to talk about trading the rights too

Yeah that has to be the hope. They have to really have Kuemper at the top of the list. But if they're mixing Campbell, Husso and MAF and some other trade targets kinda together, it makes it harder with all the options still on the table.

The other caveat is that there may not be immediate urgency. The avs likely dont want 2022 draft picks. Theyll want 2023 and on to give themselves more ammo for this trade deadline.

Heres to hoping Joe has some eager GMs.

Regarding Kane, you've gotta think that if he's willing to waive his NMC to come to Colorado to win he'd also be willing to re-sign as an UFA.

So what would a contract for 34 year old Kane look like, and is there any chance the Avs could re-sign him, bearing in mind other raises in 2023?

The thing about Kuempers rights is that now that it's clear we're moving on from him, we definitely have to get something for them.

The beauty is that with Darcy, now that he's won the Cup, it's purely about the money... so whether it's NJ or Tor or other, we should definitely get a decent pick in return and teams that don't want to be sitting there on July 13th scrambling without a starter shouldn't have a problem forking over a mid-pick.

IMO, unless he was willing to take a huge discount (like staying around $5M - $6M) as a UFA to stay, it would be a 1-year thing, especially with new deals for Mack and Bo due after next season.

Chicago would have to eat half of his salary.

EDIT;

Just checked, so Kane has an expiring contract.

Yeah, which is why I think New Jersey makes so much sense. They have all there own picks still except the 5th round but they own CBJs 5th rounder. But they also have two additional 4th rounders from NYI and Edmonton.

They could easily give us Edmonton's 4th for example to get that early negotiating rights with Kuemper, and they have plenty of cap space to sign him. On top of all that, New Jersey is a team to me that really is just a decent goalie away from being a playoff team next year. Darcy isn't great but I think he provides enough consistency for New Jersey to make some noise next season.

Plus, New Jersey could easily turn around and flip Blackwood to Edmonton or Toronto after and recoup the 4th rounder, likely getting even more then that honestly.
