Dave Pagnotta just said on SiriusXM that Joe Sakic told the Blackhawks during the season "if he is willing to move, give us a call" regarding Patrick Kane.

And then Pagnotta says Kane is definitely gone and he'll be traded with 50% retention.

Depends how he does, if it's a bad fit, injuries or whatever and Debrincat doesn't want to sign in OTT - acquiring teams could suggest that some of his success came from playing with P.Kane.

Dorion should have gotten some kind of assurance that he wants to be there for a good while.

He'll do just fine there. But say he 'struggles' and only puts up 30g... teams will gladly offer a 1st and 2nd for him. It might be a later first in the 20 ish range, but still a 1st. Goal scorers don't grow on trees and he's an elite one. Shown with two 40 goal seasons and a 30g season.

Just even look at the last deadline. Pending UFA Copp got a 1st 2nd and prospect. Toffoli got a 1st picks and prospects. With a full year, they can recoup a 1st and 2nd, even if later in the rounds. Even at the deadline in 24, they can get a 1st + for him.

Pagnotta is seriously undervaluing contractual values IMO. He said he believes if the Avs traded for Kane @ 50% they could still fit in BOTH Nichushkin and Giroux for a combined 10M.

I mean... Giroux still returned a 1st + B prospect. And Kane is significantly better then Giroux.

As others have mentioned, Kane is amazing at elevating his linemates. Hell, if the Avs could acquire Kane without Newhook I could actually see Newhook blossoming with Kane as his winger.

Kane solves the 2C hole by simply existing. He doesn't need a good Center to still be ridiculously effective.
