A lot of guys will transfer out of the ECAC for their fifth year because they won't be eligible for a fifth year at the Ivy League schools.

A lot of fifth year guys will transfer in general because they've already graduated with their class and will go play that extra year somewhere else where they either think they have a better opportunity or just a different opportunity.

This whole NCAA transfer situation with extra years of eligibility is so confusing. One day we will find a document that outlines it all

Canisius, somewhat shockingly, actually had a lead in that game, 2-1, midway through. Minnesota eventually took the lead at the end of the second, but the turning point was early in the third when the Canisius kid launched himself at the head of a Minnesota player resulting in a 5-minunte major. That led to the two goals including the Lamb one above and from there the poor Canisius kids were just overwhelmed.

is it just me or does that kid look like he's got very legit potential. i've never seen him live before last night and honestly i just put the game on to watch the tournament...i forgot we had a guy on minn. i actually noticed him and was curious who he was before i heard the name and put it together. was a really, really impressive skater...he actually reminded me a bit of pettersson with the way he moves. not putting him on that level, just looks similar with the way he moves around the ice and similar build. really liked how light his skates are on the ice and has a weapon of a shot. was mixing it up physically too.

that said - for anyone who knows him better or seen more - has he sort of been coming along over the course of the year working his way up the lineup and taken off recently? or has he been getting these kinda mins all year and been mostly underwhelming with some good moments? not sure if this is a kid really tracking the right direction or i just caught an outlier performance.

"For the first time in possibly forever, Lamb hasn't been asked to be his team's top scorer, but rather to be a guy whose primary role is to stop the other team from scoring, whether by possessing the puck or being defensively responsible first and foremost."
...
"Lamb, a Byron native who was Minnesota's 2021 Associated Press High School Player of the Year as a junior for Dodge County"
...
"As a junior he scored 52 goals and had 87 points and led the Wildcats to a state runner-up finish in the 2020-21 season."
...
"Lamb has two goals and three assists, and has played in 33 of the Gophers' 34 games this season. His value has come in many ways, though, as he has taken just one penalty all season and he has blocked 18 shots."

"Brody Lamb has made a habit of coming up big on the big stage throughout his hockey career.
The Byron native did it as a youth hockey player, leading a Dodge County Bantam A team to a state tournament for the first time, in 2019.
He did it for two seasons for the Dodge County boys hockey varsity team, leading the Wildcats to the Class A state championship game in 2021, when he was named the Minnesota Associated Press Player of the Year.
He did it last week, scoring a goal — just his third of his freshman season — in the Big Ten championship game against Michigan.
And he did it again Thursday night, recording an assist on the game-tying goal, then adding an insurance goal.. "
"...head coach Bob Motzko told the Post Bulletin that Lamb was close to breaking out offensively “I know he’s not scoring like he wants to,” Motzko, an Austin native, said on March 3 at Graham Arena, ”but it’s there. He’s just knocking on the door, and it’s almost every night now."
...
“I hope he understands how good he’s doing,” Motzko said about Lamb, when the Gophers were in Rochester. “He’s going to be a big-time player. Everything that he’s been and he wants to be, he’s going to be that for us.
...
“He has great vision and he’s playing his best hockey right now..."

Yeah, for sure. Obviously he put up great numbers in high school, but high school is just that. When he transitioned to the USHL I could a really watch him and while he got off to a slow start, he picked it up as the season progressed and started to make a real impact.

Perhaps more impressive was that his commitment to Minnesota was originally to start next season, and yet with a stacked team already assembled, Bob Motzko asked him to come play this season. That was a good sign. There was not a "need" for him but they wanted him on the team.

I'm not a Minnesota fan but I've seen several games of his this year and he has been a pretty consistent staple on the fourth line this season. I wouldn't say he has been on an upward trajectory until a bit of a late flurry of offense recently (relatively speaking), but he has been consistently dependable all season. He's playing a reliable 200-foot game, getting stronger, and he has always shown flashes of the offense that I think most have assumed was there. It's tough however when you're playing behind so many top draft picks (Snuggerud will be a star) and established upperclassmen like Bryce Brodzinski.

Next season could be a big one for him. Problem is when you attend a program like MN, they always cycle in those high draft picks types, so it's hard to climb the lineup. Not to suggest Eric Ciccolini was held back by Michigan, but his sophomore year they had that influx of guys like Brisson, Bordeleau, Beniers, Kent Johnson, etc. And then by his senior year they've got Fantilli, Samoskevich, McGroarty, Brindley, and so on. It's hard to become more than a role player. Doable, but hard. With that said I have no idea what Minnesota's incoming class looks like.

When we voted on prospects, it was hard for me to throw too much behind Lamb because he just hasn't been able to really show much to this point. But as other posters rightly pointed out, simply making the team when he did, and that he played a consistent role and wasn't a scratch every other night, on probably the best team in the country was a really positive sign.

Tl;dr he's definitely an interesting prospect and I look forward to watching him develop over the next several years.

Michigan U. was even dropping a 1st rounder like John Beecher to a 3rd/4th line role. Some teams like Michigan and Minnesota, sometimes BC or BU are just stacked from top to bottom. I think in Ciccolini's case he might have been better off somewhere else---even other strong teams like U Mass or Minn-Duluth he might have had more chance.

For what it's worth, Ciccolini decommitted from Colgate and received calls from Michigan, New Hampshire and North Dakota. He visited all 3 schools and he picked Michigan because it was closer to home and he could stay in touch with his family.

He also had a nasty shoulder injury in his freshman year that didn't help his development. But all things considered, the decision for him was tied to non-hockey related factors.

NIL rules the roost nowadays.

Harvard got blown out, so Karpa is done.

Merrimack got smoked, so they're done. Ollas didn't get the start (strict goalie rotation there).

Michigan is underway, Ciccolini.

He can. Now that his season is over, he's no longer subject to article 4.2 of the IIHF transfer agreement.

Do you see him coming over? I know he's very young. Would be nice to get him some pro games in and later to be around the Rangers as a Black Ace for this run.

Don't know if he'd be a candidate for Worlds for Slovakia, but that is still many weeks away

If he could join Pack for a few weeks, even if not getting into games, that might help be better ready for reporting for Camp(s) late summer

Yeah, he's probably at least 3-4 years away. Will be turning 19 in September. Needs to get stronger and just develop at a natural pace.
