Stepans D+1 year was good, but not sensational.

His D+2 year was a NCAA championship away from being pretty much the best year a prospect can have.

-WJC leading scorer
- WJC Gold
- 2nd in NCAA scoring
- NCAA Runner up

Stats-wise you're correct about Dtepan's D+1 season but when you consider how physically underdeveloped Stepan was at the time, his D+1 season was sensational honestly.

some folks recall Sam Malinski attended NYR Prospect camp last summer

he is wrapping up his NCAA career w Cornell, he is RHD, position NYR have thinned the depth chart recently - Nils, Skinner, etc

this note re Palocsik, another Ivy/ECAC RHD who also attended NYR Prospect Camp'22

Palocsik turns 24 in May, Malinski 25 in July(screen shot from Dev Camp roster press release)

For the players in Hockey East, that tournament started Wednesday. Berard and Chimlar won against New Hampshire. They play Hughes and Northeastern today. Ollas plays against BC as well.

For the ECAC, Karpa and Harvard beat Princton 6-1. No points for Karpa, they play game 2 today.

Kampf and Cornell took game 1 against Clarkson 2-1. No points for him. Game 2 is also tonight.

In the CCHA, the semifinals are tonight with Kjellberg and Northern Michigan playing Michigan Tech. Winner plays in the finals next weekend.

Not affecting our guys, but odd situation in ECAC where, mid-season, leadership abruptly changed the opening playoff weekend (last weekend, when 5 played 12, 6 vs 11, 7-10, 8-9) from best of 3 to single elimination.
That was always a fun weekend, with some final higher competitive tension for the lesser teams

Notably on Karpa, it was his first game back since getting hurt February 3.

11 points in 16 is the same pace that Rydahl had in his more successful seasons in the SHL points wise - just to give folks some context with someone recently in the organization. I think Rydahl didn’t get himself a good shot to earn NHL spot due to injuries (obviously still far from given that he’d earn a spot even if healthy) Edstrom is still a pretty young 22 yo who still got room to develop and as was said his game could be more appropriate for NA style. If he can become even a 4th liner - it’s win for the organization

One of my main points I've been emphasizing all year and some people will say it's to a fault; with his age and the way he skates, all he has to do is show up to camp in top shape this fall and he has a roster spot practically waiting for him.

Othmann with a goal and assist tonight.

Picking a great time to heat up with the playoff starting soon (7 more games)

5G / 7A / 12P in his last 7 games.

Also worth mentioning that Owen Beck (MTL prospect) also needed some time to adjust after being traded to the Petes. Both him and Othmann are getting comfortable now.

Brett Berard's little bro Brady snapped a 27-game pointless streak and recorded his first NCAA goal in OT to win and keep Providence going.

Ollas stopped all 20 shots through regulation and that game is going to OT against BC.

BC outshot Merrimack 13-6 in OT but still 0-0 after 4
Merrimack 0-5 on PP, BC 0-3

Kjellberg, Laba, Ciccolini, Lamb teams all win.
Berard's win ends Hughes' season/NCAA career

NCAA hockey season winnowing down the teams
Upcoming weekend has Finals of Conference playoffs,
then the NCAA selection show on Sunday

This season NYR have 11 NCAA players - 7F 3D 1G
9 are still playing
Hughes, Mancini's teams were eliminated from Conference playoffs,
the teams are tied for 19th in Pairwise, can't see a path for either to earn an at-large bid

Coming on Friday:
ECAC semis: Kampf/Cornell vs Karpa/Harvard;
Harvard at 8 very likely IN no matter how the weekend goes,
Cornell at 12 is a bubble team for an at large bid, even if they don't win out,
other Semi is #2Q'pac vs Colgate
upsets elsewhere could allow lesser teams auto bids, giving highly ranked teams the at-large bids

Hockey East Semis:
Berard/Chmelar/Prov vs BU, despite recent tourney wins, Prov still mid-20's. so their only path to NCAA tourney will be to win out next weekend

Ollas/Merrimack vs UMassLowell - Merrimack was 2nd in HE, is 14th in PW, but only reliable path to NCAA will be to win out

NCHC Semis
Laba/ColColl facing #3, defending Champ Denver, their only NCAA path will 2 huge upsets come the weekend (NoDak and #8 StCloud in other Semi)

SATURDAY
CCHA Finals
Kjellberg/NMich vs #13 MinnSt(Mankoto) - if NMich can upset, they'll be in NCAAs

Big10 Finals
Ciccolini/Michigan #4 vs Lamb/Minnesota #1 - both team wil make the NCAAs

IN CHL, NYR have 6 guys, 5 Fs and Boyko
Only BMB's Soo(OHL) team has been eliminated from playoff
Sun Mar 26 is Soo's final RS game, possible he ATO's w Pack soon after, he does NOT yet have NHL ELC

Othmann(OHL), Grubbe, Korczak(WHL), Barbashev(QMJHL) teams have clinched

And it sure seesm Boyko's Kelowna(WHA) has clinched,
altho the WHL website hasn't marked them clinched,
they seem to have 18 point lead over nearest competitors,
all with only 5 or 6 games remaining ...

if I was a unsigned college player, I don't think I'd want to sign with the Rangers. Dan Girardi is like the last time that worked out? They have not handled these type of players well since. Correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT: forgot about Kevin Hayes but I'd put him in a different category since he didn't want to sign with the Hawks

EDIT2: doing my own hw, Pionk (2017) is another UFA from the last decade.
