If they had signed Edström the same off-season as Henriksson, he would have been AHL eligible this season. By waiting another year, they had no choice but to loan him back to Rögle.

Next season he will 100% be in Hartford and with him and Rempe, it's going to be interesting to see how they hold up.

Do you see him as having a realistic chance to make the big club? He fills a need, is mature enough physically, a great skater, and he's on an ELC.

He looked great in the preseason game he played in albeit a very limited role. He has so much time between now and then to train and be in phenomenal shape.

I know he's supposed to be a 4th line Dwight King type but faster, but he looked like Anders Lee in those highlights.

We go through this all the time with young players, right? And we tend to go "Yeah, he can make it" but we said the same about Yogan, Thomas etc.

I'd say with Ryan Gropp it was universally agreed that he was not going to make the NHL but other than that, we always have that hope.

Edström, for a 6th round pick, looks really good. He's not a scorer. He's built for NA pro hockey for sure. It depends on how he does in Hartford but I am hopeful.

I think Edstrom has all the tools to make it in the NHL. He's obviously huge, very strong, has a nasty temperament (again, better-suited for NA than for Sweden), has good hands around the net, skates fine, and is versatile in that he can technically play all three forward positions. There's not one single thing about him that would make me think he can't make the jump. Now, as we know--until the guy comes and does it, you just can't be sure. But I feel very good about Edstrom, which is why I've been so high on him for the past several years. Some guys just have a good profile for the NHL, and I think he's one of them.

Some players, you look at their game and wonder how they're going to translate to the NHL. Look at Henriksson. The kid is small, not a great skater, mediocre hands/shot, but with a high hockey IQ. You struggle to see what about his game would need to evolve for him to take a step to the NHL. It's hard to imagine what kind of NHL role he would be able to carve out.

With Edstrom, it's right in your face. The kid has size, wheels, physicality, and a willingness to go to the net and battle with defenders. You know exactly what you're going to get if the kid eventually can make the jump to the NHL.

For guys like these it’s foremost importantly how they perform defensively. Can’t bleed goal’s again and only contribute physicality. I know nothing about this part of his game so I hope when he comes over it’s there.

Right now Rempe might have the edge over Edstrom. A couple years younger and playing in the AHL. Neither one of them put up much offense. Rempe's got a real mean streak to his game though and has been in 6 fights already this year and some of them tough ones. He's made an impression and is pretty much an every game player and is holding his own. Really I thought he was a candidate for the ECHL at the beginning of the year.

You could be right, though I do think Edström is a lot more talented. He was getting time in the SHL at 18 and was a regular at 19 and it wasn't because he was a goon, it was because he was a good all-around player. Rempe definitely has the "head start advantage" but I think there's a lot that Edström can do that Rempe cannot.

I see them both as 4th line players. I don't see upside with either beyond that. Edstrom has had some good playoffs but his regular season production plateaued about 3 years ago or it's been pretty much the same.

Again with Rempe we're also talking about a guy who is a couple years younger and though I doubt he's ever going to put up a lot of production he will agitate and he will fight and those are qualities that really aren't taught. They're either in a player or not and I guess it's subjective to the fan how much value to put into those kind of qualities but if he plays a good enough defensive game or can get there in the next year or so he's not really that far away from where Edstrom is now. To my mind the more adds that a bottom liner can put in his game the better his chances. For both that defensive dependability.....penalty killing.....using their size to make a positive difference.....once in a while chipping in on offense are things they need to do to have a chance. Edstrom can be a very physical player but he's not likely though to match Rempe's more aggressive game.

How has McConnell-Barker looked this season? I haven't seen him playing but 16 goals and 34 points in 31 games is a good stat.

Do we think Berard signs this spring?
Yep, within days of PC season-end, i expect him w Pack.
... and some/all of Othmann, Korczak, Grubbe, Kjellberg, Sykora Edstrom, BMB, Barbashev, Boyko trickling in too

Would be great if Pack could creep up to cusp of playoff qualifying, positioned to benefit from incomng talent, energy

You think Sykora this year for the A? I feel like he prob needs more time to develop physically, no?

Speaking of long term prospects Chmelar has been really interesting.

I think he has looked excellent. Very active, always involved, showing good skill and vision, and really putting the team's offense on his back.

If Sykora ends up making the move to the WHL I think for sure he'd make the jump. If he finishes the year in Slovakia, hard to say. He'll get in plenty of games particularly if you include the U20 and even senior national games, so they may just leave him.

Did I see Othmann in full cage?

Did he get injured?

EDIT: Confirmed wearing cage
