NCAA prospects seem to be doing well to start the seaaon.
Honestly as someone who follows the prospects obsessively, this has been an awesome start. BMB and Barbashev are both at a PPG, and while that's not always a barometer for success for junior players, it's a significant improvement over what they did last season, which is what you want to see. Othmann is basically toying with the league, and even Grubbe has had an awesome start--I think the points will dry up a bit, but he's clearly shown that he did make it back successfully from the knee surgery.

In college, all the new picks and legit prospects are off to good starts. Berard is the exception with just 4 assist in 7 games, but he has been active and involved like normal and I think he's just had a bit of bad luck. Chmelar is having an excellent start and showing the skill/power game that got him drafted to begin with. Laba is off to a great start, Lamb is playing well given his circumstances, Zarpa had a nice opening weekend, and so forth. Hughes, Ciccolini, those guys aren't really prospects, so I don't count them.

The Euro guys, it's a bit different. Edstrom has struggled, Tarnstrom has been invisible, Aaltonen is injured and cementing himself as a non-prospect. Vaisanen hasn't taken any steps forward. Fortunately Sykora is off to good start, having a significant role on the team and also showing decent production.

All in all it has been a good start for our guys. More guys with rising stock than falling stock.

Im turning 39 in feb… that scares me. Im almost 40
I'm laughing seeing several of you complaining about your age. Wait until you turn 70 and wonder how you can be old enough to have a granddaughter playing college field hockey. Stop complaining, enjoy every precious second and take lots of pictures to remember what you have.

Jayden Grubbe an assist on the Powerplay. is he good on faceoffs? That can be a big help to this organization. Future 3rd line center in the mold of Goodrow?

Grubbe has taken 209 face offs this season and won 123- which is 58.9%. He is 11th in the WHL in face off percentage. Grubbe is more of a pure center then Goodrow, has a little more offense to his game and is bigger then Goodrow. Goodrow is 6'2 204 lbs at 29, Grubbe is 6'3 203 lbs at 19. By the time he gets to the NHL Grubbe's playing weight will be closer to 215/220.

Goodrow was undrafted but attended one of our development camps some years ago before he signed as a free agent with the Sharks.

He is a good example though for someone like Grubbe to follow. Grubbe is a 3rd rounder but 2021 was a pretty mediocre draft. Coming out of covid and starting last year after missing most of the previous because of ACL surgery.....like players before him it took him some time to get back up to speed so the improved play is a good sign though he is also an older CHL'er now. His numbers should be picking up.

Going forward the Rangers don't necessarily need to find top line forwards in rounds 2 through 7. We have Lafreniere, Kakko, perhaps Chytil, Othmann or Kravtsov to be those guys in our future. It's also going to be a while yet before Panarin, Zibanejad and perhaps Kreider, Trocheck age out. The openings at forward are going to coming in on our bottom 6 and I suspect even a higher flyer like Othmann will first have to earn himself a job there before he can move on up. It's okay.....it should help round out his game even more. Perhaps if Kravtsov was a '21 draftee he'd be looking at a similar situation with much more realistic expectations. Timing can mean a lot.

For the kind of game Grubbe plays there is a pathway to the Rangers. Big bodied, physical, two way game, leadership (captain of his WHL team two years running). My read on him from last year was he needs to get his skating back after the surgery and he also needs to work on his shot. His two way game was already a strength of his.

That's exactly what we need our bottom six to be. More Lehkonen/Sykora types. Supress shots, eat up time and maintain possession

On March 2nd, 2023 the Rangers play the Ottawa Senators at the Garden. This is their last game before the 2023, March 3rd NHL trading deadline.

8 games earlier the Rangers play in Vancouver the Canucks on February 15th, 2023.

Flint Firebirds are scheduled to play 5 games in that time period, starting on February 16th and ending on February 26th.

Depending on the Firebirds standings, does anyone have an opinion on if this would be a good time to give Brennan Othmann his 9 game look?

No. You don't pull a kid away from Juniors in the middle of his season unless there was some sort of major emergency and half the team was out. He'll go to the Pack when his Junior season is over and hopefully they can make the playoffs so he gets some extended time there.

You’re burning a year off his ELC in that scenario, which defeats the purpose of sending him back to Flint in the first place. I think he’ll be here full time next year

What if Flint is out of the CHL race? Might save him from being moved to another OHL team.

What if the teams need is a top 9 wing? Could save Drury from an overpayment for that spot. If Othmann works out he stays and we save assets which could be used for a vet d-man or back-up goalie (if Halak isn’t the answer) or just bank the assets for later.
If he’s not ready, Brennan goes back to Flint.

We're not allowed to call him up until his OHL season is over, outside of an emergency (which won't happen).

Thank you, I did not know that.
Never mind.

more diligent guys may be able to cite another instance

but the last Emergency recall which I recall, by NYR, of a Junior player
was this unexpected appearance by an 18-year-old Goalie

Yeah, the last one I recall is Michael DiPietro for Vancouver in 2018-19. It's rare, and I'm not sure it has ever happened for a forward or dman. There are just too many players at those positions that teams could play before dipping into the CHL.

I had one this year. I can vouch for that. Morphine didnt even stop the pain. They had to get some other shit which made all sorts of loopy and sleepy.
Haha, yup. I had to have on lazered out last year. Just passed another one ( the normal way) last week. Doctors say that kidney stone pain registers at levels higher than child birth.

I vomited in the Emergency Room with my first one 10 years ago. Doctor told me that I hit my max pain threshold .

When the stone starts moving I told my wife that I'd sign over to deed to our house happily to someone who'd make the pain go away lol.
