I wold not be surprised more options if someone taking the faceoff gets replaced by the refs. I also wonder if the Rangers did that with Cuylle as well. He also has played center and for a winger is pretty good on faceoffs for someone who is not a natural center. Maybe they see Cuylle as a Goodrow replacement which I can see happening as well.p
Wonder if the Rangers asked Nitra to have him try center..
I would think Nitra is trying to win games and doesn’t see themselves as a Ranger development team.

Also, centers often translate to wingers. Wingers translate to centers much less often. If they could, they’d normally be playing center already. Of course, there’s an exception to every rule. The Rangers need to emphasize acquiring natural centers… hopefully in the upcoming draft - not try to reinvent every developing prospect they have into something they aren’t.

Barbashev just put up three apples so he’s up to PPG for Moncton in the Q.
a good comparison is his brother in St. Louis. They play a similar game. Not sure of Maxim has played any center but they play a similar physical 2 way game.
Is there a third brother?

From the Prospects Board thread, when PB asked about how Sykora's doing so far (4pts in 7 games)

Good, getting lots of ice time. Around 19-20 mins a game and is playing second line C. Nitra is just not as good this year and as a team are not lighting it up on the scoresheet. But the improvement from Sykora is there. Playing all situations

Sun will rise.

Rangers finish with 88 pts, out of playoff run with a 2-7-1run in late Feb. Kane not needed here and goes to Buffalo.

Vagili, after missing 17 games with ass acne gets traded to LA for Mickey Rourkes used 3rd jersey with the sleeves cut off.

Rangers go to the Draft and with EVERY pick take a center.

Othmann comes in and we have our own Matthew Tkachuk. KK and LAF become FIRE. KAM a 2024 Norris finalist with Foxy.

Cup coming to Broadway in 2025.

Vesey skates with the cup. Hands it to Libor.

Chytil returns in 2026.

Seems pretty accurate except you missed the center ice ceremony right before the 2025 playoffs start when Trouba rips off the C and Kravstov gracefully accepts it in front of twenty thousand screaming Ranger fans.

Yes. He is huge but surprisingly agile for his size. Not super technically sound, but getting better. He looks more like a journeyman to me, but the size and decent athleticism make him worth watching.
It sounds cliche, but taller players, especially goalies, just take longer to develop. The sweet spot for NHL goalies at the moment seems to be the 6'3" to 6'5" range, but the high-end guys go in the mid-to-late first round (Vasilevskiy, Oettinger, Knight, Wallstedt, etc.). It's almost unprecedented for a 6'7" goalie to actually make it. If Boyko is going to have a chance, it's probably going to be a few more years as he grinds his way through the minors. Same goes for Ollas, our other behemoth goalie prospect.

Overseas leagues get transfer fees from NHL teams. It's not an insignificant amount of money. It's in their best interest to foster a good working relationship, and vice versa. While it's ultimately up to the player, NHL franchises wield great influence when it comes to where their drafted players will develop.

I don't think the Rangers expect their development partners to put their teams in a position to lose. These kids develop quickly at 18/19/20, so ice time and experience early in a season can pay huge dividends later on in the same year, or the following year.

Yeah. I think it was a good choice for Ollas to go the NCAA route, where he can develop for four years before even worrying about stepping into the pro game.

Sykora has played C in the past with HK Levice, many young Slovak players who play in the Slovak second league will play both C and the wing as they try to get play time at whatever position. Nitra believes he is most capable as a C, since they have lots of wingers as well. Sykora is the second leading scorer on the team with 5 points in 8 games, top guy has 10 pts in 12 games. That shows how dry the goal scoring has been for them.

that musta looked weird to some readers
Bader posted about how drafting really tall skaters was as risky as really small guys

but then pulled it back

Pretty obvious since it's just unlikely to see 6'6'' players just as 5'6''.

Not a great night for Grubbe. No points and only 1 shot on goal in a 6-2 win. He also took 4 minor penalties and a 10 minute misconduct. The only positive thing was that he was 13 out of 20 on faceoffs.

I couldn't find any mention of what he did to earn a 10 minute misconduct, but it came at the same time as a delay of game penalty, so maybe he was arguing the call a little bit too vehemently.

His coach, Steve Konowalchuk, had this to say:

“I thought our leaders did a great job, Grubbey (Jayden Grubbe), Uchar (Uchacz) and Seds (Sedoff) all stepped up,” said Konowalchuk. “We had a couple of guys out today and you need your best guys to be your best guys, and our top end guys certainly were.
