I have to say last year was fun. For guys like us that know the young players, you get to watch them up close in Laval instead of them being in St. John’s or Hamilton. I went to a few games winning tickets from work and I enjoyed my experience. Obviously it’s not the Habs, but you’d be silly to have such high expectations.

After the potential roster players above provided by @montreal, would be fun if they come together and put in the effort to achieve similar results to this past year.

Having more actual prospects to watch next season will be fun. I'm really looking forward to seeing guys like Mysak, Norlinder and Xhekaj in action. Slaf , Guhle and Mesar should be spending some time in Laval as well. It's going to be fun to watch.

While every team has one of their players and using their jersey number to show how many days left before the season starts, Laval goes with an opponents' jersey as he gets body checked by RHP. 🤣

With so much turnover most years in the AHL you never know from one season to the next how it will go but I would be shocked if this isn't a playoff team but of course once camp gets here we'll see how things go. Very interested to see how camp goes for many and how that ends up affecting Laval's roster.

With the depth the Habs have at forward, particularly on the wings, you'd think that players who are waiver exempt would be the easy ones to cut from camp and send down to the AHL. However, I'd pay close attention to Ylonen and RHP at camp.

If they start the year in Laval, I don't see them finish there. Unless of course at the TDL, they're on the Laval roster in a paper transaction in order to be eligible for the playoffs should Laval make it there.

I wasn’t all that impressed with Ylonen during the playoffs. My impression was from two games I was at live and I paid particular attention to him since in games I wasn’t at live he was playing great. He just couldn’t find his game, was easily out muscled. Not sure if it was the frustration that kept him from playing effective hockey, but I wasn’t particularly excited about him from the tiny little sample size I’m describing.

his problem has been,

1- not physically strong enough, gets pushed off pucks too easy.
2- needs to add mass and strength both upper and lower body
3- lacked consistency this year, ran hot and cold at times, which is not uncommon among skilled young players. I thought he looked better in the NHL then he did in Laval at times.

I have said all year that I thought he should get more time in Laval next season unless he's made major strides in the adding mass and strength part. As I hope that with more mass and strength he would have more confidence to get his nose dirty a little more, get more involved in the play. Clearly there's something there with him, the speed, skating, shot, decent playmaker, there are NHL skills there but he's still got what I assume is a few more years of development to happen.

The Laval Rocket announced Tuesday that the team has agreed to the terms of a one-year contract (2022-2023 – AHL, one part) with forward Brett Stapley.

Still think they are missing a player that can give you close to a PPG upfront, and depending on what Montreal does with the rookies, lack experience on defense. I also think they need somebody as a backup goalie to sacrifice in the NHL instead of Primeau if a goalie gets injured. As I said in another thread that could even be Montambault as there was no reason to sign him for. 2 years unless it was to make him less attractive to grab off waivers.

Lucky for us the 2023 draft seems to be loaded with such players.

I understand his decision but I Farrell would've looked good on our AHL squad.

Also Ken Hughes said yesterday it's a possibility Mesar starts in Laval, depending on his camp.

That's a solid team!

I'm thinking Slafkovsky, Guhle, Harris and Barron could all see time with Laval as well
I don't think the first three will need to spend much time in Laval, but I am starting to think that Barron, despite his impressive physical tools, needs more time to develop his game reads before he can handle even 16 minutes in the NHL.

Harris probably not, but I think the other 3 start in Laval unless they force hands.
That is not a controversial statement, however where people disagree is what level of play is needed to be considered "forcing the hand".

For me, a forward who beats out enough veterans to be top-9 or the 4th line play driver has forced his way onto the team.

A defenceman who beats out enough veterans to be in the top 6, able to play 15+ minutes and not hurt the club, has forced his way onto the team.

Once he is on the team BEGINS the final development process of grooming a player to become more dominant, to become first a 2nd liner or 2nd pair player, and then later a top liner or top pairing guy.

Right now, I think Harris and Guhle will meet my standard, Slafkovsky is a maybe, and Barron is not there yet. The brass and the fans will all be watching the next 7 exhibition games closely and be refining their evaluations.

They might keep Mesar in Laval to stay with Slaf

Laval's camp is set to start tomorrow. The rosters to start the camp:

F: Mysak, Teasdale, Hillis, Condotta, Abbandonato, Beauregard, Bourque, Francis, Martel, Poirier, Saulnier, & Stapley
** Schnarr cleared waivers and will also be at the camp **

D: Fairbrother, Dello, Centorame, Galipeau & Green.

G: Desrosiers & Vrbetic

Invited: Trudeau (D), Tourigny (D), Dubé (F) & Parker-Jones (F & D)

There might be some 3R players under ECHL contract that might be at this camp before the 3R camp gets started.
