If the Avs had the cojones to start the retool this year with their 1st round pick, avoid the cap crunch by selling this summer, and go for another window with Mack, Makar and Rants still in their prime in 2-3 years I'd be on board.

The only way I can actually see this team miss the playoffs is if the injuries continue. And all they have to do is get in to be a top contender.

This same team with Kadri, Burky, and a worse goaltender in Kuemper, but without Lehky, Helm, Cogs, Manson, Byram (hopefully more than this year), ERod, Meyers and Georgie went 15-0-1 in January last year. They had two 5 game winning streaks. A 6 game winning streak. A 9 game winning streak. And a 10 game winning streak.

They also only had a 3 game losing streak to start the year. A 2 game losing streak in early November. Then didn't lose two games in a row until March where they had two 2 game losing streaks, and then that outlier 6 losses in 7 games streak to end the year when they were resting guys and checked out for the playoffs.

So far this year their longest win streak is two 4 game winning streaks. Then they have a 3 game winning streak and two 2 game winnings streaks. But also two 2 game losing streaks. A 4 game losing streak. And right now a 5 game losing streak.

So not much has changed from last year roster wise or goaltending wise that would cause this drastic change, from multiple lengthy winning streaks and few short losing streaks, to what they have this year. The only real thing that's different is the difference in how healthy they've been.

This means they should be able to put together a string of wins in the second half like they did last year, to push them into the playoffs, as long as this disastrous string of injuries doesn't continue. (knock on wood) Even then they might be able to pull it off if Georgie can steal them some games down the stretch, because they're still close in the standings.

They're beat the hell up, tired as hell from the schedule and all the extra minutes played, playing as bad as we've seen in years, and they're still only 3 points out of a playoff spot, with three games in hand. And that's only because they lose 5 in a row.

In theory this should be rock bottom, and they should only be able to go up from here if they can get healthy.

If the Broncos were in the Jags spot they probably win the AFC South even with all the crap they have gone through this year. Unfortunately things won't get any easier for awhile in division.

I wish Bednar would give a long look at ERod at 2C. Like several games to see how he responds.

A game like tonight makes us realize that it's going to be rough next year without JTC and ERod. That's all we have left for real depth and they are most likely gone.

Erod declined 3 years x 3.5 last year. Factoring in a rising salary cap along with him likely being a key contributor to a team who plays deep into the playoffs and I think we should expect his next contract to be bigger than that.

The only way you get him for 3.5aav or less is if you offer a lot of years. Personally I’d do that since I don’t really care what happens after the Avs window closes. I’d be giving everyone term to keep the AAV down. I’d throw 5 years 3M AAV at him no problem.

We can't resign ERod and/or JTC, we have no room for depth.

This is a 22 men roster at 82,860,000 for 2023-2024. Forget about the exact names of the bottom-6 placeholder I selected. The whole bottom-6 is going to be 1M$ guys.

The big wildcard is the return of Byram. If he doesn't come back and we play hard ball we can get him down to 2-2.5M$ on a 1 yr deal.

The only way to create space is to shed G, and that will pay for one decent bottom-6 guy. Maybe 2 if we go razor thin on the cap space with a 20-men roster.

If Avs are healthy they likely run a 21 man roster with MacDermid the scratch. I do believe this summer Girard gets traded for forward help.

I also 100% believe the Avs play hard ball with Byram. He doesn't have any leverage given his injury history. He will either sign cheap or hold out. The Avs will not be paying him big money the next couple of years though.

This is the most likely outcome. I could see a scenario where Byram repeats his great postseason run this season and gains a little leverage but we’ll see.

Personally, if I’m the Avs I’m still trying to use the injuries to get him on a steal of long term contract. Hurts a bit more immediately but could be a real big help down the road.

I used to be thinking this way but Byram's injuries have scared me off completely from wanting to offer anything long term.

Prove you can play a full season first, then let's talk.

You forgot carryover bonuses and we need a 2C. Rantanen will not play center, as seen as recently as yesterday.

If we manage to trade G strictly for futures (might be tough to do) and replace him with a 1M dman (yikes), that leaves us 4M. Some of it is going for this years' bonuses, which leaves us 3M (?) for a 2C. Still doesn't work.

I get it, and I don’t blame anyone who feels that way. For me though, I’m not as concerned and would be willing to take the gamble. He’s not out because of his head and LTIR always exists down the road.

Rodrigues is such a perfect fit for this team. You figured he would be with his style of play and the system but we're seeing pretty much the best version of it play out now. The production might go down but he still shifts the ice with his speed and transition play.

I think Elliotte was the one who said the Flames (even after signing Kadri), Canucks, and Ducks were some of the other teams interested. It would've really sucked if he ended up on the Flames to add even more depth to that team. Thankfully he chose the Avs and it'll likely be a win-win with him cashing in on his bet this summer.
