And have a Crosby/Malkin sort of setup… you can win weaker on the wings with those sorts of centers.
Yeah...he does also offer some positional flexibility if they want to overload the top line on occasion. Guess it would just depend on whether or not the Avs have solved their long term 2C problem by the time Vancouver decides to pull the trigger.

If they want futures we are out. Someone will offer a better, or less riskier, top prospect than Byram.

I think you're underestimating Byrams value. It's easy to do because he's injured. He's blue chip talent. His injuries are the reason for the plus. But you also have to consider contract and age. He's already demonstrated he can play at an elite level. There's no projection with that. One would think that Vancouver would want someone with his upside if they're trading for someone like Pettersson. How many teams have a prospect/player of his age and caliber that are also in the market for Pettersson (including his next contract)?

Teams in rebuilds won't be able to justify Pettersson's salary. The thing about the NHL is the same teams seem to routinely make the playoffs (more or less). That means a lot of play off teams, haven't been drafting at 4 recently. Off the top of my head, LA maybe?

I realize as I say this Landeskog and Nichushkin are hurt and Pettersson would spontaneously combust if he was traded here immediately.

So perhaps just on paper it looks nice.
Petterson would trip and tear his knee apart while simultaneously blowing up his rotator cuff immediately after passing the physical and having the trade confirmed.

Dude has something like 100 points in his last 80 games. If he hits the market it isn’t the Avs just gradually offering pick by pick until it is secured… it is 20++ teams offering the farm, the house, the aunts trailer, the shed stolen from Ned, etc

I don't think it's 20 plus teams selling the farm. For some teams doing a re-build, there will be the question of having several years of wasted salary while the re-build occurs.

I would easily trade Mikko Rantanen for Elias Pettersson. Would throw in our 1st and Newhook if need be.

Sure, perhaps overpayment when you add those two but being able to run:

Lehkonen - MacKinnon - Player X
Landeskog - Petersson - Nichushkin

would be insane.
Landeskog petterson OO as the 2nd line. All of a sudden we have an elc in our top 6 as well

Teams rebuilding might be the first in line. A sure thing top line center that might be a 100 point guy… sign them up. Solve the biggest positional need with a sure thing.

Pretty much would have to be, too. Pettersson will make a couple mil more than Rants. Actually how much do you guys think he'll get? I was thinking 11M.

Petey probably ends up around 11-12m, if he plays to his potential next season. If he doesn’t it could come in around 9.5-10.

With that thought, Rants is getting 13 on his next deal… easily. So one season of paying more.

Since Montreal is about to have two top 10? Picks how about Suzuki?
It depends on Montreal's view of their own timeline. I'd guess that Suzuki or one (or both) of the firsts have a lot of appeal - obviously. They already have overpaid players so, if you're them, wouldn't that be a reason they'd want to go after Pettersson? If you're going to have big salaries, have it be for guys like Pettersson. And if Pettersson elevates other players, suddenly those other players are less overpaid.

Bouncing around but Rantanen for hischier would be interesting just because of their contracts, you'd get Mikko for 2 years and we'd get Nico for 4 before both get a raise.

Edit- forgot the cap will probably be better in 2-4 years

They just made him captain, signed him for 8 years and he's the first decent center they have in like 2 decades. I'd say the chances of them wanting to trade him are slim to none.

I also kind of forgot that they've got caufield due for quite the raise and Carey Price's contract

I misread and thought it was already up this summer. It's ok though since he will still be RFA.

I think Pettersson is likely a "where there's smoke, there's fire" situation. We heard this speculation coming out of his ELC, which doesn't happen often for star-caliber players. Something is going on there and none of it is good for the Canucks.

Start with Byram, Newhook, and a 1st as a base and then ask them what else they want. Pick whoever from the other prospects. A few more 1sts? Sure, all yours.

Other teams can likely beat that with ease. It'd require Byram having another playoff run like last year to even have a chance.

Only chance we get EP is if we put Rants on the table and the Canucks are looking for the best player available and they aren't afraid of him becoming UFA fairly soon.

In other words: not happening.

Any futures and multi player package will easily get beat by several teams with no 1C currently and with tons of high quality assets.

Where there's pee there's poop

But is there poop where there’s pee?

Isn't that saying the same thing, just reworded?

I stumbled on this thread while doing a keyword search for “Vrana” and thought I’d weigh in.

The only valid inference which may be drawn from the first statement would be the contrapositive; that is, it may be logically concluded that “where there is no poop, there is no pee.”

If Byram was healthy he'd be a really good chip for a Petey trade especially with the Vancouver connection.

As is with his health issues there's no reason Vancouver would ever take that risk when they're going to get as good or better trade chips without health concerns from other teams.

But ya you move literally anybody on this team that isn't Mack/Makar for him.
