Yeah if Petey hits the market… whatever it takes short of MacK and Makar.
Rantanen for Pettersson? He doesn't have NTC in effect yet, but will for the next two seasons. I don't think they would get a better offer.

Of course, I want Rants to be in Avs for life, so I hope it doesn't happen.

I’d do it… might be unpopular, but Petey is a legit elite top line talent at center. Potential 100 point guy.

It depends on what Vancouver wants. They're in an awkward spot in that they have some older players with big contracts but this might also be start over move. Miller's (et al) contract says win now, however. Ownership seems to get in the way of executing a vision.

You know they'd play the Swedes together, so lines would be something like this:
Lehkonen - MacK - Nichushkin
Landeskog - Pettersson - bestoftheworst

I haven't talked to the trainers yet

Byram, Newhook, 2023 1st, (and maybe Girard for cap) for Petey.
That's the kind of package they'd be looking for. Perhaps another piece.

Byram's health is probably too much of a concern right now for him to be considered as the main piece of a trade like that though.

Recently, J Rutherford has expressed a desire to acquire younger players. I think 25 and younger was mentioned?

Rantanen has 2.5 years left on his deal. He's 26.

Then...

Byram with a significant plus.

Which is more likely to gets the deal done?

Yeah on Byram… even if the value lined up, Vancouver doesn’t take that risk on health. They simply don’t need to with who would enter the bidding.

You'd think the Avs would be willing to part with 3 years of 1sts in addition to Byram (even with Newhook included) for this kind of player.
I’d give up the next 6 for Petey.

If they want futures we are out. Someone will offer a better, or less riskier, top prospect than Byram.

Yeah, but you wouldn't offer 6 right out of the gate. I'd think it would be around 3 that would get it done, keeping in mind that Vancouver has an incentive to trade him.

I would easily trade Mikko Rantanen for Elias Pettersson. Would throw in our 1st and Newhook if need be.

Sure, perhaps overpayment when you add those two but being able to run:

Lehkonen - MacKinnon - Player X
Landeskog - Petersson - Nichushkin

would be insane.

Dude has something like 100 points in his last 80 games. If he hits the market it isn’t the Avs just gradually offering pick by pick until it is secured… it is 20++ teams offering the farm, the house, the aunts trailer, the shed stolen from Ned, etc

I realize as I say this Landeskog and Nichushkin are hurt and Pettersson would spontaneously combust if he was traded here immediately.

So perhaps just on paper it looks nice.
