I'm going to miss Tarasenko.

5th most regular season points (Federko, Hull, Sutter, Unger)
3d most playoff points (Hull, Federko)
2d most playoff goals (Hull)
10th most regular season games (Federko, Jackman, Sutter, Steen, Pietrangelo, Hull, Backes, Berglund, Perron)
5th most playoff games (Hull, Pietrangelo, Federko, Steen)
Strongly helped win 2019 Stanley Cup, including starting the play on the Cup winning goal and sealing it with a play midway through the third period of Game 7
and he is 2nd in adjusted goals / 3rd adjusted points
#91 should wind up in the rafters in my opinion

He was probably the MVP of the series against the Sharks too. Led the team in scoring with 3 goals and 5 assists, which included 5 points in games 4-6. That shootout goal to make it 3-0 in game 5 and his PP goal to make it 2-0 in game 6 were both goals that made me feel confident that we were going to the Final. Jones just didn't have an answer for Tarasenko's shot. In my mind, that penalty shot sealed game 5 and then the PP goal in game 6 convinced me that no matter what happened, Martin Jones just wasn't going to have what it took to prevent us from scoring that extra goal. one of my favorite photos from the run:

I loved the footage of Ott and Berube talking before the Penalty Shot. “Does he know what to do?” “He scores 50 goals, he better.”

Yeah I have a photo of the third penalty shot goal during Sharkie Five-O in my house and I watched Game 7 in that white #91. That penalty shot goal also told me the Blues were going to the Stanley Cup Final. I felt it in my bones. And what a feeling after all the years.

Vancouver just hired tochett, so I would have to imagine they’re out on Trotz. That would be a pretty terrible way to treat Tochett, but with the way they handled the Boudreau situation I guess nothing would really surprise me.
That was quick!

They should have fired Boudreau and named an interim. Could still have hired Tochett all the same. That organization is shameful. The contrast with Seattle starting to have success, and building on a solid foundation is going to make Vancouver look worse and worse in comparison.

I felt that way on the Steen-Barbashev-Scooby Doo Burns goal on the shift after the Hand Pass. I have to admit, I wasn't confident about winning the Final at that point, but I knew San Jose was going down.

Blues are in spitting distance of 24th (have played two more games than Detroit). Blues could have 9th overall pick by the end of the month.

Yeah, I was thinking 9th overall is probably the lowest we could finish. Those bottom 8 teams all seem pretty unlikely to catch us. So at the 9 spot that means we would at least have a remote chance of landing 1st pick overall, right?

We'd have a chance at 1st as long as we have between the 1st and 11th pick.

True by overall points we are close to 9th but by points percentage we ahead of Florida and the Isles by a hair. They have both have 2 more points but have played 2 more games. Honestly trying to get into the top 10 is going to be harder than making the playoffs

One "advantage" over Florida is that they don't hold their own 1st round pick and have every incentive not to shed talent approaching the deadline. They have every reason to fight for the playoff bubble and no reason to be 'upset' by finishing outside of the Bedard lottery.

The Isles don't really have any meaningful expiring contracts and Lou probably isn't interested in a rebuild/retool. I see them keeping the roster intact and pushing for playoffs, even if they would be better served long term by tanking.

Honestly, I think we are in decent shape to finish in the bottom 10 and the last few days has been a huge blow to our playoff chances. A few days ago I wrote about how we needed to at least keep pace with the Avs through the end of January. Since then, we lost to the Hawks and they won both of their games. We're now 4 points behind them and they have 2 games in hand. Calgary went 2-0 since then as well, which puts us 6 points behind them (we have 1 game in hand). We need to jump both to get into WC2.

I have more faith in Flordia doing better but they a very inconsistent team. The Isles on the other hand are in free fall. They have lost their last 9/10 games. I just have a feeling the blues will win more games than they lose and they will end up with a pick somewhere in the 11-13 range

If I was someone with an ego, I'd swear the coaches read my post before the game. My comments on Parayko this season have sort of been in defense of him and sort of not. I'm glad they finally "demoted" when his play wasn't up to par. At this point, it's important that he just finds his game again, and find it with consistency. Last night was probably one of his worst games, and he's also had games this season, like that Colorado one where it was some of his best hockey.

Give him 3rd pair minutes until his game comes back and then put him back in those tough situations. At this point, the playoffs aren't happening, so if the others can't pick up the slack, it doesn't really matter. And if he's playing through some sort of injury, sit him.

Congrats on achieving egolessness, Buddha! This is big.

I’ve been hoping the team would be able to turn this around and sneak into the playoffs but after that loss to Buffalo I’m ready to embrace the tank. Looking forward to the trade deadline and the draft. We better get some decent pieces back, hopefully they trade RoR, Vladdy, Barbie, and Mikks. Maybe try to re-sign Acciari. Really hope they can get some good assistant coaches for next year too.

Sucks watching the playoffs when the Blues aren’t in it…going to be long offseason but I’m looking forward to watching our young players develop next year.

The loss to the Blackhawks was much worse to me, especially after a good game against Nashville. Buffalo has a potent offense and they're huge. The Blues seem to me to have a lot of trouble with their normal game plan against bigger teams now. Even if the Blues were on an absolute tear, I would have penciled the Sabres game as a problem.

And even though it's way more exciting to watch the Blues in the playoffs, I kinda like the occasional freedom/time to dig deeper into the other series and not have my experience more distinctly colored by nerves/angst of the Blues games.

I think the loss to the Hawks was worse, but the timing of the two and the way we lost last night makes the Buffalo game a good 'nail in the coffin 'moment.

Saturday was not acceptable. Our goalie played poorly and theirs played very well, but that was the worst team in hockey in our building on a Saturday night. We hung our heads after the 2nd goal against and weren't ever able to get back to the shooting gallery we were putting on before that. Awful, awful loss that put us in desperate need of points and a response on Tuesday. If there was a single game all season in which this group needed to come out strong in the 1st period, it was Tuesday.

We were down 2-0 a minute and a half into the game and 3-0 before the midpoint of the 1st. Matchup problem or not, that just can't happen given the surrounding context and now the standings page is real ugly.

Seems fitting that it was Buffalo that put a bullet in this Blues' core's last hurrah. I can take it. Good luck to them. Their fans have suffered a long time. There are a lot of franchises I'd rather see lose than Buffalo, if it came to it.
I think the Hawks was the tipping point. As much as we don't want to admit it. Buffalo is on the up. Tied for league lead is GF. Getting scored on by then isn't the same thing it was about 4 years ago. They have a real good offensive powerhouse growing over there.

I am not implying Buffalo is bad. I think they're an exciting young team to watch, and though still a flawed roster they score a hell of a lot. I just think that was the last moment for this year's Blues to show they are going to fight for the playoffs. The loss to Chicago was egregious, but its only 2 points. Get those 2 points somewhere else and you can recover. But there had to be a response to that embarrassment, and we got the opposite of that vs Buffalo.
