SMU 4-3 win over X
Looking at X, they are top heavy on offensive talent, but the defensive part of their game lacks big time.
SMU opened up a 4-0 lead before X battles back to make a game of it.
SMU looked like the Red Army in the 1st period, just buzzing in the SFX zone. They had a load of shots, but not really a lot of scoring chances. Nelson took over the game in the 2nd period.

This AUS-TC exhibition game thing is still a mystery. I was on the Avenir site this morning and they have the games listed, but when I selected "Tickets" I was send back to the home page.
This thing is only a week away and Absolutely no info.

I moved this comment to here from UNB thread.

Still waiting on the Dillon Boucher decision from the SMU-DAL game Wed night. I didn't go but there was some activity.
Peyton and Dunn both got fighting majors and Boucher a Check-From-Behind-Intent-To-Injure match.
Peyton and Dunn are posted on AUS page for 1 game.
I would suspect, with his history, Boucher getting At Least 5 games.

Watched the last half of the UNB-UPEI game. The Panthers actually outshot the Reds. Richard has been great in nets.

Dal gets a win over Acadia to close out the first half.

Does anyone have any insight on why the players don't shake hands after a game?

I could understand during the Covid thing, but why not now?

I believe the women do.

Remember, they stopped hand shakes in AUS men's games pre-Covid because of post-game 'incidents'. Peds was one of the catalysts, but I can't remember what was the last straw and when.

It probably gets the same level of attention as 15 Minutes before the game time, Referees and Head Coaches meet. That doesn't happen either.

I can't say for certain, but I don't think that is the reason. I don't recall any "incidents" during the handshake. Perhaps between coaches, but not with players.
I know they shut it down for Covid but I thought it was revived last year.
It's all a blur. I always felt that it was a "good" part of hockey. I will have to inquire more....

Tickets go on sale Monday at 10 am for the AUS-TC games. I'm gonna try and get over for the Sunday game (weather dependent).

Thoughts on the first half?

UNB - shaky start to season with a couple of bad losses out of the gate but seemed to have things straightened out. No big surprises otherwise…I think the only question mark will be if they can meet the moment OR if they’re a season or two away from being real contenders again.

UPEI - veteran group who seem to be for real this season. The biggest change I’ve seen in this edition of the Panthers is that they look like they’re really playing for something. Huge improvement this season on undisciplined PIMs. I also don’t think they’re playing as UCup hosts…they’re playing like they want to go in the front door.

UdeM - I really like this Aigles bleus squad. Pesky and can finish on their opportunities. New coach with some new recruits and veteran core pieces have really come together. Down the stretch if Cyr and Montepetit can stay healthy…I think they could make a push for a UCup berth.

SMU - no real surprises IMO. Couple of big wins at home over UNB. Middle of the road. Could make a push for UCup, but I expect them to finish middle of the pack.

StFX - easily the biggest surprise of the first half. Completely agree that they are too heavy on offence and lack composure on D. Definitely missing Centorame back there. Raaymakers has had a very tough start to the season as well. No where to go but up for X. As much as I would like to…I wouldn’t rule out Peds and co just yet.

ACA - also somewhat of a surprise so far this season. Axemen have failed to execute on their chances so far and don’t offer much depth. Expecting ACA to finish near the bottom.

DAL - for me it’s “what could have been” for the Tigers. The exodus of guys last season really killed any momentum that they may have had going into 22-23. Also tough news for the program with the construction pause of their new venue.

Yes, it is a bit of a blur for me as well. I definitely remember there being some incidents between coaches during handshakes, and I seem to remember something happening between some players during a webcast I was watching, but I could be misremembering.

I would like to see them bring it back. It is part of the game, and reminds everyone that it is just a game. Not only do the female players shake hands, but they also shake the hands of the on-ice officials at games end.

For me, the two surprises this season has been StFX coming back to the pack, as 902RedIslander has outlined. They still have time to right the ship.

You don't want to pity a team, but Dal is in tough. They were on a nice rebuild before Covid hit. I thought they would continue to improve. This year's recruiting class is not strong enough. I guess there's always next year?

re: Thoughts on the first half....

UNB - self pity much? They lost 2 games early in the season. So did UPEI. DAL lost 3.
They have quite a few new players who regardless of their CHL stats need to learn the game at this level. Not sure what you mean by "real" contender. UNB contends every year. Sproule will add to their talent pool.

UPEI - Forbie has done good things with this team. Solid goaltending, some decent scoring. As the UPEI broadcaster said one night about the Pilons: "If they can stay inside the fence, they're fine." If this East Coast guy shows up expect them to be better. I still expect them to get in as host.

UdeM - Another team with solid goaltending and scoring. Started out hot and are still in a good position.

SMU - Not blessed with gifted goal scorers but have won games with stellar goaltending and have lost games with less than stellar goaltending. I think Helvig has positioned himself as #1. If they get their injured guys back they can contend.

SFX - I expected more from them especially with a young team last year going to the Nationals and getting Bronze. Look for them to "rassemble ta merde" and move up the ladder in the 2nd half.

ACA - Honestly, ACA is where I expect them to be. Losing a bunch of guys last year, having a goalie recruit drop out at the last minute doesn't help. Their young guys will get better, but they need a good recruiting year to restock the cupboard. McCollum is a nice surprise. They've played with a short bench a fair bit due to injuries.

DAL - Not a lot to say. The loss of Gentile and Kirwin mid-season had a negative impact. This years class is very average. While they work hard every game, the talent is just not there. Expec them to steal a win or twon the the 2nd half.

I doubt Gardiner was going to pick him as a Dal rep for the AUS team anyways ...

Heard USports is waiting on Hockey Canada for publicity for the games this weekend. It is a Hockey Canada show. Can't blame USports this time.

Ticket prices are not the best. I guess HC needs to fill their secret slush fund since Sport Canada defunded them.
