Weegar is legit. Very Toews-like and I think he’s a top pair guy but just not a #1 guy. He struggled in the playoffs but that doesn’t define him and let’s keep in mind, Toews also just had his own struggles in the playoffs during the Avs run.
Toews struggled in our run? When?

I don't think Weegar and Toews can be compared as playoff performers.

If more info comes out we should be prepared to face the potential reality that some current or former Avs knew about it and said nothing.

While yes the Avs should do their due diligence, I'd say the likelihood of this occuring while on the Avs is minimal. That was 9-10 years into his career.

He was married with kids by the time he got here. The girl seemed to indicate that he was not married and dating many women in her statement.

More than likely this occurred during his time in St Louis near the beginning of his career.

Could be wrong, but I hope I'm right. I really don't want to hear any Avs players involved in this shit.

You're likely right on the timing... either St Louis or even Pittsburgh. That said, being married with kids hasn't stopped many NHL players before and certainly didn't stop Cole from banging a woman last year. I wouldn't use that as any sort of evidence.

I was moreso using what the woman said in her statement. She seemed to indicate that he used the fact he was dating lots women to manipulate her. Doesn't mean he wasn't married but it seems far more likely this was pre him being married.

Obviously being married doesn't stop some these guys but I feel like that fact would have come up in this woman's statement had he been married already.

Maybe, but maybe not either... it clearly hasn't stopped Cole even in the recent past. Entirely possible he was 'dating' lots of women on the side of his wife. Hopefully Ian can come back and chime in here.

I was watching a clip of the Steve Dangle Podcast on YouTube, and they were talking about how dominant Makar is, saying that this is his reign and no other defenseman are currently close, then one of the cohosts chimes in with Adam Fox. Steve and the other cohost called him a Rangers homer. Lol

Call me crazy but I don't think this team wins the Stanley Cup with Weegar instead of Manson.

I think I'm in agreement there. Weegar wouldn't have really addressed any weaknesses the Avs had, and IMO he would've actually exacerbated them a bit.

FTR, saying Weegar sucks is ridiculous, but I would be concerned at this point if his game for some odd reason doesn't translate well into the postseason. Dude is damn near elite when it comes to preventing guys from entering the defensive zone, but once there, the flaws in his game really open up. He's very prone to giveaways, which he has to clean up. Also, I can't help but think it's getting into his head, because I can't otherwise explain why a really good top pairing guy would just leave someone in front of the net wide open to go chase the puck behind the net in that Tampa series.

The biggest weakness the Flames have to me though, is not Weegar, it's Markstrom. I just don't think he's a legit franchise goalie, even though he's being paid like one. Parlayed one good year (where, BTW, he also still struggled in the postseason) into a big payday. That's ONE instance where Jim Benning didn't f*** up.

One of the biggest issues with Weegar is he is reverse TJ Bodie. I haven't paid attention to Calgary's pairings, but forcing him over to the right side just because he's a right shot doesn't work. He's a left defensemen through and through. If he plays there, he'll succeed and is a legit top pairing guy.

The Markstrom thing is weird. The Oilers are a problem for him and I think that’s the main problem there.

The NHL could have "started" the season with a "Hockey day in Canada" for Canadian Thanksgiving with 3 games featuring only Canadian teams. Games at 2pm, 5pm and 8pm ET.

But no.
"Canadian Thanksgiving" isn't on Bettman's calendar.

This is why I think Edmonton is the biggest threat this year:

Their defence is average, but I think this forward group is pretty comfortably the best in the league.

McDavid, Draisaitl and RNH at 1C, 2C, 3C.

If they play those lines then no team can match them at center for sure. Kane and Hyman are legit top 6 wingers as well. Campbell in net is a significant upgrade too.

The battle of Alberta will be for real this year. They have 2 of the top 3 teams in the west, with us being the other.

Holloway could round out too... he's got legit 2nd line potential.

Edmonton's defense isn't great, but they have a couple guys who could make steps forward and shore it up. Bouchard namely... he needs to clean up his defense, but he's a big impact guy offensively. We know Barrie is too. Nurse for all of his faults is a top pairing quality. If Broberg comes in and plays at a top 4 level (and he's capable if his mind clicks). They then have a decent group that is deep. Not necessarily the highest quality, but if that happens, 5-6 guys who are all capable of top 4 roles. Guys like Ceci and Kulak are not ideal in those situations, but they can be shifted there.

They've had all those centers for years now and tend to not play them as such. I don't think that really means anything.
