Avs would have to place the player back on waivers to send him down

Like "hey that guy's on waivers do you want to keep him?"
"yes"
"Ok bye"

No papers to fill or anything for a pointless claim.

That's why we don't see a lot of players claimed and then claimed back by the original team. Like say the Avs are interested in a goalie but the team wants to keep him in the AHL, it'd be pointless to claim him.

Don't we have last pick of waivers? That would mean everyone passed over said player. If we picked him up wouldn't that mean that he wouldn't get picked next time. Unless the team that waived him wants to keep him.

Not really because the waiving team needs to waive the player, they can't keep him in the NHL.

Avs can't claim a player on waivers and send them to the A. They'd need to waive him again, and the original team will claim him right back. Now, if you wait for a player like Tokarski to clear waivers, and then give a sixth round draft pick for them, then you could send them down because they had cleared within the last 30 days. But getting a third goalie for free ain't happening, it just doesn't work that way.

The main reason you see players clear and then get traded is a team wanted a player, but didn't want them on the NHL team. If the Avs want to replace JoJo, that'll have to be their method. I really doubt they will replace him right away though.

I for one would very much like to see Annunen start a couple games up this season
 
James Neal released from his PTO in Lumbus. Might be the end of the line for him.

There's a player who didn't age well at all, though IMO he was a tad overrated to begin with.

Crazy to me that his game fell apart quicker than effin' Looch's.

I'd say he aged normally... Peaked in his early-mid 20s, steady regression to 30, then fell off a cliff and kept tumbling until there was nothing left.

Lucic fell much quicker in to a 4th liner sort of role, but he's far better suited for that role.

Except....he wasn't wrong. JMFJ was a f***ing beast for us last year. He was supposed to be #7/8 on the depth chart and ended up having to play 2nd pairing minutes. Not his fault that was way above what he was positioned for and to be honest, he did about as well as could be expected when forced into the role. That's kinda been the running theme of the second half of his career though. He does so many little things well in limited minutes that coaches inevitably play him higher up in the lineup than they should. I wish that Champion nothing but the best.

Don't you dare put this on my childhood. That is a product of the 90s, not the 80s. That's more Ren & Stimpy than GI Joe or Bugs Bunny.
