Interesting, I feel like I’d flip Nadal and Joker personally.

It's certainly debatable with how phenomenal they both are defensively, but I think Djoker goes down as the best defensive player of all time. Certainly the best returner. Dude is a back board. His game is predicated on getting it back in play and grinding out the opponent

So the Oilers are now 6.1 mil over the cap.

Vancouver, Vegas, TB, FLA. All over.

What are these teams going to do to get under?

Vancouver has Ferland on LTIR.
Edmonton has Klefbom and probably Smith
Vegas has Weber
Thought I read someone from Florida will be on LTIR as well, maybe Duclair.
TB has Seabrook.

These teams are mostly under the cap actually when you take into account their LTIR space.

With hindsight 20/20, what were some of the biggest misses from the expansion draft/offseason last year for Seattle?

Things likely worked out in Seattle's after ending up with Shane Wright, but I'd argue you could build a better team with the players Francis didn't take than the ones he did.

I don't think the Kraken missed some that huge gem that will sting long term though. It was more about them consistently not taking the best option a team had, or getting absolutely nothing from some teams (i.e. Chicago, Columbus, Philadelphia). Domi (CBJ) and Zadorov (CHI) were both later traded for 3rd round returns; Voracek (PHI) would've easily been Seattle's best F.

Death by 1,000 paper cuts IMO.

Seattle planning to play Bura on the first line with Beniers at center. Something tells me that they don't know what kind of player Bura really is.

Projected lines according to NHL.com

Maybe Grubie will be better next season.

The Coyotes fans in Glendale routinely got outnumbered by opposing fans. In a 5,000 seat arena I expect opposing team fans will be even louder.

The Coyotes players might think they're playing only like 7/8 home games this coming season.

Man, I forgot Ferland even existed.
Poor guy hasn’t played in forever it feels like.

Good, f*** the Yotes. Just a black eye on the NHL maybe Gary will realize it with this joke of an arena setup.

Hard to imagine he could be much worse.

What kills me is, not only did they sign Martin Jones as the backup, they gave him trade protection (!!!). Like, really? He and his agent had the gall to demand trade protection after he's been objectively one of the worst, if not THE worst goalie in the NHL the past 3-4 years? And Seattle actually gave it to him!?!?

I don't know much about the University, but with the arena being on campus I could see them doing a deal to fill it with college students which should be heavily tilted towards the home team.

Injured reserve mostly

Oilers will have to do more than that once they sign McLeod--even with Smith and Klefbom on LTIR they'll still be over the cap. Someone will have to be moved. Seems pretty obvious who it's going to be.

Am I crazy for thinking Seattle over performs next year and makes the playoffs? I think Grub will rebound to at least a passable starter, Burky will have an excellent first season besides the rookies, their pending UFAs will all perform strongly, and with how bad the pacific is I could see them sneaking in that #3 or WC spot.

No, not *crazy* but A LOT will have to go right for them to make it in, even in a weak-ass division like the Pacific.

I don't see them outperforming Los Angeles, Vegas, and certainly not Edmonton for the top three spots. That leaves the wild card, which will force them to battle Calgary and possibly Vancouver or Anaheim, not to mention any Central teams not in the top three division spots. They improved, but not to the point where I see them overcoming all of THOSE teams.

I've got my top two in that division as LA, Edmonton, and then all the rest as potential bubble team to tanking for Bedard. How Calgary and Vegas respond to their off season troubles will really dictate how that division plays out. If both falter through December it's wide open for that third spot. I'm probably underestimating the Nucks with Boudreau at the helm too, but I guess time will tell.
