I know he's done a lot for the team. But they missed their shot at the cup and now they're mired in mediocrity. Time to go in a new direction I would think.
At this point I’m not sure what the Preds want to do. Can’t really blow it up, can’t really go for it either.

Wild card race in the East. The Panthers don't own their 1st and there's no protection on it.

Florida is hilarious. Zito lost his damn mind last season and traded away everything to win a round. Now they suck and don't have a 1st. Brilliant.

At least some reporters have the guts to say this out loud admits all the gushing for that pricks record.

That article is funny AF. It's as if America is angelic all the time or American athletes don't have to criticize their government actions. Hilarious.

Has Ovechkin publicly stated that he's in favor and supports the invasion of Ukraine or is this a guilt by association type of thing where because he has some ties with Putin then he's automatically guilty if he doesn't publicly criticise him and his decison to invade?

Should every Russian person have to publicly condemn Putin and the invasion as well or else they too are 'pricks' for not doing so?

This please, I’ll let it sit where it is currently, but if the political talk continues I will do a thorough scrubbing
Thanks!

Look, I too know this place is supposed to be politics free. But I feel like we can be so rigid at times on it, that you are asking us to only engage and be half a friend to each other because we can't ever talk about some things.

So, I do really appreciate you monitoring, giving warnings and allowing us to go a little bit down the road without going too far astray. It's a fine line to walk and you guys do a superb job around here I think.

And now to hockey:
I can't figure out what Vancouver is, they probably don't know themselves either. EP such a big factor?
When EP40 is playing all out, he can legitimately win games on his own, or at least keep a lackluster Vancouver team hanging around in games.

I really don’t wanna read other folks trash opinions on politics. What’s good for the goose needs to be good for the gander. I can’t get to in-depth here but it upsets me that it’s allowed to stay up.

I do think the NHL needs to create an award for the best defensive defensemen. There are SO many great defenders out there who don't get recognized because they can't put up big numbers.

Oh, and they need to revamp the Selke trophy, too. It's not just "guy puts up just below PPG numbers and wins faceoffs" award.

Come to think of it, the NHL should completely revamp most of their trophies the way the NBA just did:

Wayne Gretzky MVP Trophy - voted on by the coaches. Not the dumb media, not the GMs. The coaches who actually have to coach against these guys.

Bobby Orr Trophy - best offensive defensemen

James Norris Trophy - best defensive defensemen

(when he retires) Patrice Bergeron Trophy - best DEFENSIVE forward

Dominik Hasek Trophy - best goaltender

Idk what to rename the Calder but that one is simple enough.

I agree that media voting is dumb as f***.

Coaches, players and GM's should vote. Perhaps even assistant coaches, scouts and other people working directly with players.

Just make sure that they can't vote for the players on the team that they work for.

I disagree. Too hard to come up with parameters on such award. Also, this implies that the Norris always just goes to the guy who puts up most points. While there is a connection, those guys who usually put up lots of points are also very good defensively. Last year Josi was not really that good defensively, but got votes. But guys like Makar, Fox, Hedman, McAvoy etc, they are also great defensively. And the fact is, if you want to be a great defensman in this league it's not enough to be a force in front of the net. You have to have a great ability to breakout offensively, QB a PP, make the sound passes etc.

Like you can't win a Selke anymore either if you don't put up numbers. Don't tell me there are not better defensive forwards in this league than Bergeron, because there are. Bergeron is still the poster boy for Selke, because he also puts up numbers. That's what Norris is about as well. You have to put up numbers.

If we were to do a "defensive defensman award", it should be based on advanced stats and f*** the votes. Same with Selke, just put up a formula to sum up all the relevant metrics.

3 top line Cs. Brock Boeser who I have been assured is a first line W. Some dude on an ELC at a point per game.

Literal God of defense Hughes. And Schenn Myers OEL who I've been told aren't totally useless to round out the top 4.

And a goaler who steals games on the regular and gets Vezina votes.

If they had a fourth hall of fame C making $5m or less the Canucks could one day challenge for a wildcard spot.

Norris Trophy:
"Awarded annually to the National Hockey League's top defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position."

Selke Trophy:
"The Selke Trophy is awarded to the NHL forward who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive component of the game."

Don't tell me the Selke should involve numbers. It's become a sham of an award based on the criteria. Ditto the Norris.

You can have a best offensive defensemen trophy and best defensive defensemen trophy. Simple. And there are absolutely metrics out there showcasing the top defenders. You can look at general correlations such as good penalty killers and shot blockers (not my favourite), but you can also look at advanced metrics like shot suppression, denied zone entries, passes blocked, slot chances defended, takeaways, etc. Those would highlight the best true defenders.

I wouldn’t mind the trophies being renamed since Jack Adams, Conn Smythe, etc. were big greedy jerks and what not, that said that’s not exactly a hill I’d die on.

Kenan Thompson will open up EK’s Norris winning card, give an eye roll, and say his name with a sigh.
