Calgary will heat up before the playoffs. I'm not going to write them off yet.

What happened with Petro?

Nah, that was too much turnover on parts that were destined to regress from their former teams.

Markstrom turning into a pumpkin, however...
He was phenomenal yesterday and they still lost.

Capitals going against Chicago. they are finally getting some bodies back (just like the Avs) so the team is becoming a bigger threat again. I feel we have a good chance to see Ovie reaching 800 today against that caricature of a team. Toews is their third best player so far with 14 points in 26 games. go figure...

Out goaltending development is horrendously bad.

Marc Denis: Developed here, awful starter, mediocre backup. Had 2 pro seasons where he won more games than lost; one behind a powerhouse Avs team as the backup, and one in the AHL.

Brent Johnson: Actually had a decent run as a starter for a few years, was never developed here so he only half counts

David Aebischer: Somewhat average starter, pretty decent backup. Probably our best drafted/developed goalie. Also he took a break from living in Switzerland to spend a year in St. John's NL, which essentially ended his NA hockey career. Can't say I blame him.

Phil Sauve: Set the bar in terms of how we draft and develop goalies. Need I say more?

Peter Budaj: Mediocre starter, very good backup. The only other real "draft and develop" success story. Almost dragged us into the playoffs that one year while on an insane run.

Tyler Wieman: greatest goalie to ever don the A, never let a single goal past him before riding off into the sunset forever. A true hero.

Sami Aittokallio: Didn't he get dehydrated super badly during a game or something? And Roy hated him.

Calvin Pickard: Awful starter, bad backup, decent 3rd stringer. Classic Avs.

Spencer Martin: Mostly below average backup, excellent 3rd stringer. Not starter material.

Adam Werner: Another classic Avs goalie, not even a good 3rd stringer.

What an incredibly depressing list to create.
And you just leave off Vitali Kolesnik???? Wait he wasn't drafted

Kent Patterson????

That sucks

Been saying all along that the hopes of a cap increase were optimistic, especially as the economy is facing recession. Next update will be around the Cup during Bettman's state of the league speech when the escrow balance is over $200m still.

The good news here though is that the escrow should get paid off next season, so an increase should happen in 24-25. Might only be to 87-88m, but one will be happening.

Not me , that is one ugly roster

I don't think it's ugly at all. Plenty of depth up front and on the blueline. But gamebreaking talent? Not there, they had one in Tkachuk and IMO Gaudreau in the right situation is pretty close (obviously that ain't the case in Lumbus though). That's merely a "good" team with mediocre goaltending. Treliving deserves credit for parlaying an untenable situation into something good, but I still think he's made way, way too many mistakes during his time as Flames GM.

Oh and I saw the other night that MacKenzie Weegar did his best Marty Skoula impression by needlessly winging a long pass along the blue line that got picked off for a breakaway goal. For a guy so smart and skilled dude can be insanely careless with the puck at times, which has bitten him in the ass come postseason.

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but are we allowed to dedicate a thread to sports betting advice and discussion? Seems to me it should be allowed considering it is legal in over half the US states in some respect. Or maybe that's the exact reason it is not allowed (and internationally)?
