Meh, it was just an off night for NJ. They'll likely load up on "gritty vets" at the deadline and what not. Still think they need to find a better goalie, but their talent should be able to make the adjustment to playoff hockey just fine (so long as they stay healthy).

Islanders certainly seem built for the playoffs but they've also been unable to make it far enough. At some point their offense keeps drying up.
Islanders should go after Boeser

You cannot make that judgement about NJD after 1 game like that.
It’s based on more than one game…

I don’t think dougie is reliable as a #1 and I don’t think Hughes will hold up well in the playoffs especially the grind the east will present.

Oh and the goalies suck

I feel like 4vs4 OT would be so much more interesting as team wouldn't go into a puck possession chess match.
The talent level is so high right now.
OT needs a shot clock or no going backwards into your own zone.

Huberdeau and Weegar look awful this year

How many games is it based on, then? Because the Devils have lost 6 games all year and 3 of those 6 games came in the first 11 days of the season.

It’s based on seasons of watching some of these guys. Dougie is a band aid. Hughes is tiny but skilled af. Goaltending is not proven at all

Have the Avs ever drafted a starting goalie in this league? Watching Spencer Martin you can just tell we drafted him based on how brutal he is.

I don't believe we have ever drafted a single one lol. I think the Nordiques drafted Thibault? He was a half decent starter for a couple of seasons. Aebischer? He had like a season and a half of good hockey lol.

The Avs have noooooo idea how to draft/develop goaltenders.

What do you mean?! Calvin Pickard was a starter that one year!

It’s beyond goalies. They hit every few years like 2009 or on Makar. But more or less they are completely terrible at amateur scouting. That will be the main cause attributed to this window being slammed shut in a few years.

You can’t even say they’re good at drafting the top of the drafts. Look at 2019 Byram is being passed by so many guys this year. Sure he had a good playoff run and you can chalk it up to injuries but they needed a center and Cozens and Zegras both look like studs. Not to mention Byram wasn’t even the best D from that draft.

Okay on that note I’ll agree with you, I’ll also add I think Graves will struggle again in the postseason. We'll see what they do to improve themselves. They definitely won’t deal Luke Hughes but I think Holtz will be used as a trade chip.

Once Nemec and Hughes are regular contributors for that team - that’s when they will be a team to be feared imo. They’re not far off but this season is too early.

Byram being injured by headshots is nothing to do with the drafting.

That is debatable. Seider for example has taken a step back this season.
I don’t watch that team much but Detroit as a whole has taken quite a big step forward. Could Seider be sacrificing personal stats for team success?

I doubt there’s a GM in the league that takes Byram over Seider today.

Stastny got his first goal of the season last night oof. He got moved up due to Aho being injured

I doubt any GM would take Byram either because of the injuries. However, if he was a healthy boy he could outplay Seider this year.

I only watched a few Detroit games and not that closely either. At least in those games Seider didn't look as impressive as last year and the stats have taken a dip as well.
