I honestly didn't think it would be that much. I thought he'd still be a PPG or close to it. Naz was gonna get 100 points with the Avs if he didn't get injured. I didn't think he'd do that with Calgary, but figured he'd at least get like 80-85 or so
Why? He's been a 60pt guy his entire career?

As they should be. They were gifted a 1st/2nd overall pick as a team on the rise. Found a Vezina caliber goalie, stole a Norris defenseman due to circumstances, and nabbed a star prized free agent in his prime. Yet their cross town rivals are outshining them in the rebuild now.

I don't know what exactly the teams issues are but the Kakko/Laf development really seemed to halt them from taking the next step.
The Rangers rebuild has been so weird and so
disjointed. They finally decided to tank and got a #2 and #1 pick in consecutive seasons, and yet might not have gotten a franchise cornerstone out of either one. Instead they got gifted an elite winger and franchise defenseman through the draft. And then they decided they weren’t tough enough and gave away a fantastic (albeit inconsistent) two-way forward for a big talentless scrub who’s always injured.

They also wasted at like two seasons with an absolutely awful coach, and I’m beginning to believe the coach they currently have is a tad overrated.

Lots of teams have had mediocre starts, which is why Boston and New Jersey are lighting up the league.

Not really concerned what happens out East, it’s a long road for any team to make it to the SCF. Now that Tampa is dethroned there isn’t one team I’d worry about over there.

Find a #2C and another third liner and I’d give us damn good odds of us repeating and easily one of the favourites (even if it’s still unlikely). I don’t even think it needs to be an elite #2C, even a player like Wennberg (just an example) would be huge with the way Lehkonen and Nuke have been playing.

IMO the biggest mistake we make is just assuming that everyone will be healthy enough to be able play at one point. As we just witnessed with the Girard and ERod situation, a player coming back doesn't mean much.

We need enough depth to be able to sustain ~3 injuries at all time.

Are the Rangers just awful at player development or did they just 'unluck' their way into two of the most underwhelming top 2 picks in recent history? At least (thankfully) the Avs got MacK and Landy with theirs

The Rangers downfall was expected though. Igor played out his mind last season, he carried them.

Lias Andersson at #7 and Vitali Kravtsov at #9, another two flops. Either their scouting or development sucks.

Though it's still possible Kakko will be the best forward after Hughes in that draft. But should have taken D.

It's a bit suspicious. Laf is/was seen as a "can't miss prospect" and both players were supposed to have a very high floor from the start.

The only thing that matters is if they’re healthy enough when playoffs rolls around.

The Avs are going to need a lot of things to go right to win another cup, but there have been a lot of positives to start this season. It won’t be hard to fill out our bottom 6 depth with late picks or C prospects.

Laf and Kakko never should've began their pro development as bottom-6 NHL players. It's no wonder they've both had so much trouble adjusting. Just abysmal asset management from the Rangers.

We should have $7 mil at the TDL, plenty to get a #2C and an extra depth forward.

Maybe we’ll even go the Riley Nash route and acquire a player on IR.
How will we have 7mil? Landy and Helm will be off LTIR in the next 1.5 months? Once they come back we will have roughly 200k in cap space.

How accurate is Capfriendly? I assumed they take into LTIR into account when they estimate the deadline cap space.
Capfriendly doesn't know when/if the players on LTIR are coming back. If you look carefully you'll notice that current cap space is the same as deadline cap space.
