Calgary now clinging to life to a wild card spot with a -7 GD on the season. What a disappointing start for that squad

The entire west is such a joke. Edmonton managed to pull off a small miracle today but they're still only 11-10-0. If they were in the East it would be major panic time for both of those teams quite frankly.

Vegas has set sail in the Pacific. They're basically a playoff lock at this point and Seattle might not be far behind.

The Rangers board seems unhappy.

The Kadri deal has 7 years left on it. He will probably be a 3rd liner for a decent amount of the contract.

The Flames went all in on these retirement contracts and are not even that good, it will look worse a few years from now.

It is if we don't count last season as a massive outlier in his career. Though I'm sure Calgary was hoping for that version of Naz

Exactly. Very unlikely he was ever going to repeat his last season.

58 points isn't bad pace for him.

Same with Tavares in Toronto. It's almost as if signing high end free agents for big money isn't a good idea.

And in salary cap era you end up paying overprice for the player and then every player from your team wants to be "overpriced" because of it. Look at Marner 11mil or whatever. Sure he puts up a lot of points but that's awful price for him. Compared to Mikko for example.

UFAs are only good if you can find some value, but it ain't easy. Top players are usually overpaid.

The Rangers board seems unhappy.

As they should be. They were gifted a 1st/2nd overall pick as a team on the rise. Found a Vezina caliber goalie, stole a Norris defenseman due to circumstances, and nabbed a star prized free agent in his prime. Yet their cross town rivals are outshining them in the rebuild now.

I don't know what exactly the teams issues are but the Kakko/Laf development really seemed to halt them from taking the next step.

I mean sure. But everyone knew regression was coming.
I honestly didn't think it would be that much. I thought he'd still be a PPG or close to it. Naz was gonna get 100 points with the Avs if he didn't get injured. I didn't think he'd do that with Calgary, but figured he'd at least get like 80-85 or so

Naz has always been a 30+30 kinda guy in his career 55-60 points. Last year was an outlier playing on a stacked cup winning roster. Also we had injuries to top guys that allowed him to play with some really good guys and get good opportunities
