I mean it looks that way now, but at the time of the trade, TT was one of several low-value throw ins in the ROR trade - no one expected him to blow up
He wasn't, TT is a 2016 1st rounder.

ROR got traded for TT + a 1st round pick + a 2nd round pick + some cap dumps to make it work.

Always kind of amazing how people look at deals... I also member how Norris wasn't a very good prospect and Jost was clearly a level above.

With our LTIR situation would we actually be able to afford him? I think yes, but I am not sure. The LTIR stuff always gets a bit murky for me.
And I am not saying we should claim him, but just as a question?

He should get claimed by someone unless the 2mil AAV is too big of an issue.
And honestly I think it might be in the current state. Would not be surprised if he clears.

Agreed. There is a clear lack of grit and the Dcore is pretty soft. Teams like that get outworked regularly in the playoffs.
D core is soft, their top 2 centers are small and not physical. They don't really have a true #1 d-man either

Devils are hot and I was probably wrong about them. They'll make the playoffs, but it seems like they aren't really built for playoff hockey. All their players are rather small and can they handle the playoff grind? It's like they have bunch of Sam Girards on their team who will take physical abuse in the playoffs

Is there even a single G on that team? The smallest defensemen is Marino at 6'1" 180. All of the other guys are 6'2"+ 200+. The team as a whole average 6'2" 200lbs (ever so slightly bigger than the Avs). They don't dish a ton of hits (partially because they have the puck so much), but neither do the Avs. New Jersey is 17-18 a game. Avs have been 16-22 over the past few years. They have guys Bastain, McLeod, Wood, Smith, and Bahl who are all pretty gritty. Palat, Tatar, Haula, and Hamilton have all gone on deep playoff runs and performed well.

The reaches people are going to discount the Devils is kinda weird to me. They look exactly like the Hawks right as their runs started. Amazing young nucleus of talent, good defensemen still in their prime, good coaching, adding some good vets around the core... but very questionable goaltending.

Hischier is 6'1" 180. D isn't heavy hitters, but big and willing to play physical. Hamilton is a #1.

I got into watching hockey in the 90s. The Devils sucked, not because they were a rival, they sucked because they were boring.

It's crazy, I enjoy watching them play now. It's good to have the Devils competitive again, it's even better that they are fun to watch and exciting!

Funny how the narrative here has went from "New Jersey f***ing sucks, no chance they're a playoff team next year" earlier in the summer, to now its "Nah they're great but they're soft, easy out in the playoffs"

When will people simply recognize they are a really, really strong team that is a goaltender away from being a contender. The soft stuff is so far out of left field as well... Half that teams is well North of 6'0. Not a single Dman is below 6'0.

They're a very good team. Will be a contender for years to come and if they solve goaltending concerns this year, they're a contender today.

Always had a feeling Jost would get one more contract after this one and then be out of the league but he may not even get another contract. He's been horrendous for Minnesota this year.

He must have made over 5 million in his career so at least hes likely set for life but dude just isn't an NHL player.

Jack Hughes should be here.

I hope Jost continues to find work in the league. Great guy.

A decent portion of that is thanks to being Nichushkins line mate in 2021.

With the tax rates and way NHL players tend to spend their money... he should be set for life, but I'd say it is doubtful he is. He's probably in the mid to high 3s (prior to this season), and after escrow, his agent, and taxes... that's likely mid maybe even low 1s. Add in a lake house, 5-10k a month penthouse, cars (or likely truck in his case), entourage, puck bunnies, nutritionist, 5k a night Vegas trips, etc. I'd be shocked if he's even close to a million and probably closer to 3-400k range right now. Don't get me wrong, great start for a kid in his 20s and he's likely to have take home this year around a million (probably 25% already spent).

Jost seemed smart enough and humble enough to know he wasn't going to make it as an offensive player. He has some of the things you'd look for in a bottom 6 type.

Hard working, willing to take a hit for the team, seems to be well liked by players and management.

What went wrong? Some combination of not quite good enough skating and not quite good enough hockey smarts?

They are a good team that may need to make some moves to reach the final mix for SC contention. I wouldn''t discount their status as a playoff team that could make trouble for someone this year. What is more impressive is that they still have a lot in their prospect pool. That bodes well for continued growth and maneuverability. The other improving franchises can take note that NJ may already be there and yet still have more on the way. They look far ahead of Det, Ott and Buff in the east.

He's small and an average skater without high end skill and nothing to stand out. If you're built like him and can't skate... well you better have a standout skill that you can carve our a career on. Cat has an epic shot. Jarvis has electric hands (though I think people have been too quick to anoint him). Keller has electric hands and incredible vision. Jost doesn't have anything to fall back on other than being a good kid.

As a WA state based poster wanting to be a Kraken fan this is completely unbelievable. Send the d*mn kid down and let him play some hockey. SMH
From my understanding, that is the plan. However, Wright and Kraken don't want him back at Kingston, and Kingston can't trade him until January or something like that. Friedman and Marek talked about it some time ago.

What really is the problem, is the stupid rule that prevents CHL players from being sent to the AHL. And I bet the GMs want that changed at some point. A lot of players could use some maturing in the lower leagues, because playing in the NHL is not actually benefitial for their development. Lafreniere is another example.

The crux of the CHL/AHL debate really gets down to the CHL being the best development leagues for the NHL by a mile. You start taking away the kids that have been drafted, you take away a lot of revenue that those teams count on to keep the lights on... and the quality of the league goes down impacting the development down the line. There isn't a real simple answer to that sadly.
