He looks like Jagr. I wanted to post it but was afraid that @TheKingSlayer would yell at me for posting a Tage Thompson goal. :whatever:

I dont wanna see/hear any Tage Thompson goals/plays/assists the rest of this season. Dropped him for Vilardi and Vilardi has cooled down alot. FML.

Perhaps Tampa was just a tad bit angry at how their last game against Washington unfolded?
Still no goals from Stamkos. Guys cold as ice.

Brutal penalty by Soucy (punched DuBois in the head) to give the Jets a PP with less than 30sec in the 3rd, and they scored the tying goal. Man that was bad.

And WPG wins it on a dumbass mistake by Bura.

Yep.

Context:
Seattle lead 2-1 with 30 seconds left. Soucy takes a DUMB roughing penalty. Jets tie the game with 3 seconds left (PP goal) and then win in OT. That was incredible.

If there's any justice Soucy will be a healthy scratch next game.

Many of the big names you hear about early are kids who develop early. They are usually fully grown or near it at 16-17, and usually much bigger and stronger at 13-15. That isn't always the case, but a norm. When things level out, some of them take steps back to the norm. Some don't. MacK was hyped for years and was an early developer, he continued his trajectory. Obviously McDavid was too and did. On the flip, Marchand was a late bloomer and while he never got big, when he got big enough, he started taking over. Makar was also a late bloomer... IIRC he was 5'3" in his WHL draft year.

I dunno those guys weren’t being talked about as phenoms like Bedard though.

Pre-draft Bedard has been held in similar regard to McDavid, Crosby, Lindros.
Lafreniere was held in very high regard too... some pan out and some don't.

What I see as a real different in Bedard compared to many of the hyped names of years past, he's doing what he is doing on pure IQ, skill, and skating. The skating will get elevated as he moves up, so that may not be a difference maker... but IQ and skill translate very well. In that way he is more McDavid/Crosby than he his Lindros or many of the other incredibly hyped names. I think he's going to be a special player for a team, but I wouldn't be shocked if he has a rough rookie season adjusting to NHL skating and physicality.

A rich man's Jack Hughes.

Seriously though, no one thought Wright was as good as Bedard. Not in the same stratosphere.

Yeah, Wright was seen as a pretty average #1 pick coming into the draft year IIRC. Nothing really special. Kind of the same level of hype that Nolan Patrick got (and I'm not comparing the two as they are now, just their predraft hype). Bedard, whether he pans out or not, is being hyped as a really, really good 1OA in a very strong draft class. I think he's going to fall short of the McDavid/Crosby tier, but he's going to have a MacKinnon level of impact for whoever drafts him.

Some stats that got thrown at me in conversations this weekend. All of these are encompassing the timeframe since the 04-05 lockout (17 seasons).

Defensemen in the 21-22 season own 8 of the top 30 seasons of point production, but only 3 of the top 30 in goals. Forwards in the 21-22 seasons have 7 of the top 30 in point production. Obviously last year was an incredibly high scoring year. Going further, the 100th highest scoring player in the NHL last year was Nyqvist at 53 points. In 15-16 (lowest scoring of recent years), Nyqvist would have been 62nd. Similar trend for defensemen, Keith had 21 at 100th and would have been 74th in 15-16. In 15-16, 243 players scored at least 30 points... last year 292.

On the goalie side, since the 04-05 lockout (min 25 games played)... only Igor had a sv% that is in the top 55 of individual seasons. Only 2 were in the top 100. Otter was 15th in the league last year at .914... that would have been 33rd in 15-16.

We all know it, but really kinda crazy how strong scoring has been. We've hear the story being that the 3rd and 4th lines are scoring more (and they clearly are), but we also see ~25% of the best individual point production seasons happened just last year. If you go back to the start of dead puck (97-98), still 6 of the top 30 overall seasons for all skaters were just last year. 5 of the top 30 if you just have defensemen including the top 3 best seasons! You have to go back to 93-94 where a different defensemen enters that fray. 92-93 before somebody outscores Josi.

This year, we are looking to be at a similar or stronger pace than last year. We are getting closer to the need to reset expectations for what is proper production for certain levels. The 40 point defensemen of years past might be a 50 guy now. A 60 point forward might be a PPG guy now. 50-55 might be the baseline of 2nd line production.

Maybe I’m not explaining myself right, but I’m not just talking about highly touted prospects that we hear about 3/4 years before they’re draft eligible, I’m talking about the guys that are talked about as the next generational talents like Crosby/McDavid pre draft. Laf, Wright, Day… none of those guys had that kind of hype.

It’s rarely seen and Bedard fits into that. Those guys don’t miss.

Yeah I think Daigle is the last one to miss iirc? Dahlin was certainly flirting with it, but it looks like it finally clicked this year for him.
