I for one didn't think Oilers upgraded in net when they got Campbell. First of all his numbers were the same as Mike Smith, and secondly Campbell has very fragile confidence. When things don't go his way, the dude breaks and gets so hard on himself. Not good for someone playing a goalie position where confidence is everything

Campbell is a significant upgrade over Koskinen and 40yo Smith.

He just got on a new system/new team, it's common for goaltenders to struggle at first. He'll get better, that's no different than what we got with Gru and Kuemper in the first couple of months after they joined the Avs.

We're just lucky this time that Georgiev is the complete opposite of that.

He sure does. Nothing was funnier in the offseason than all the Avs fans wringing their hands because Edmonton "upgraded" in net.

And no one hand wrings as much as you.

Is he thought? I really don’t know if Campbell is a major upgrade.

The difference is Kuemper actually won the cup, Grubauer was a vezina finalist with the Avs. Campbell lays eggs when things get tough

Hmm? These things happened AFTER their struggles with the Avs.

Campbell is as good (or as bad) as Gru and Kuemper. Those 3 are better than Smith and Koskinen.

All I'm saying is Campbell can get hot and play really good for a stretch, but once things get little hard and don't go his way, the guy breaks down. I wouldn't trust him in the playoffs

Some goalies just struggle with a starter workload and does better sharing the duties more evenly. Campbell might be a platoon type of guy. Of course that strategy doesn't work in the playoffs.

I think how the team plays also matters quite a bit. Avs are good at making goalies look good the last five years while Oilers like to trade chances.

Columbus is 32nd in the league with Werenski so they don't need to tank. Just keep doing what you've been doing.

There's a huge, huge difference between saying Soup is an upgrade on an injured and very old Mike Smith, and saying he's a legit starter for a contender.

I've never bought that Campbell is a legit starting goaltender. He's a very good, high-end backup, yes. He can be the 1B goalie in a tandem if need be. But he's not a starter. Prior to last season, he had never played more than 31 games in the NHL in any given year. He made it to 49 in Toronto, but even then he suffered a major injury and simply wasn't good enough in the playoffs.

Genuinely think I would have died of rage if I was a Buffalo fan watching Eichel doing that.
"He did nothing wrong"

No, he just provided shitty leadership while collecting his 10M paycheck for 5 years.

I know the Buffalo situation was far from ideal but he was as shitty of a captain and teammate as it gets (and this statement is backed by former teammates).

Always been part of the problem more than part of the solution.

The page before.

Lol, devastating blow.

This means nothing though. As of right now Georgiev has never played more than 34 games in any given year. For Grubauer it was 35 games before joining the Avs.
