2022-2023 Around The League

Looks more and more like last year was a fluke year for them.

With Eichel now playing like a top tier 1C, Stone being healthy and Thompson playing like a #1 goaltender, IMO that team is the best version we've seen from this franchise yet.

Significantly more dangerous than the one who made it to the cup finals.
Again, I'm not ready to crown these guys.

Only 5 of their first 13 games against playoff teams from last season, they went 3-2-0. Of their next 20 games only 7 against playoff teams from last season, including their next game against a currently goaltender-less Leafs team.

They have IMO had an INSANELY easy schedule to start October/November.

Let's not forget this is how they looked last season, too, until the wheels completely fell off. They are an old team with unproven goaltenders. Let's see where they are at come March.

Why hasn't this come up earlier?
Because no matter what is said, it won’t matter. Only results will matter in the end. People are still saying he’s done nothing and he hasn’t apologized. Both are wrong, but keeps getting repeated. You can (validly) say his apologies were bad or not enough. And his work hasn’t been enough. As I said earlier, Eustace simply wouldn’t have taken him on if he was still being shitty or a lost cause.

I'm perplex on why this information was not out there when there was an outcry about ARZ drafting him. If true, it changes almost everything.

But at the time of him being drafted, didn't most teams (as per the family's letter) claim he didn't really show remorse for his actions?

I don't know about this kid. On one hand I believe in second chances. On the other hand this seems like chance #2978398 based on all the years of abuse he caused the other child.

The issue here is the victim's mom is still unhappy, very vocal about it and she's actively trying to block Mitchell from having career in the NHL.

Mitchell has to find a way to make her less unhappy and he'll be able to have a career. If not I don't see any way out.

I do think that he's walking on eggshells in fear of getting sued though. If there was an easy way out he'd have done it a long time ago, anyone can apologize and look sincere (even if they aren't), it's the easiest thing in the world to do.

The kid has an agent and legal advices, they know what they are doing.

This is at the heart of my question. Did he start on his path to redemption on his own or did he do it as a business move on the counsel of his agent (who is conveniently black) to white wash the whole thing? The timeline is central to the analysis.

I don’t know if Miller was doing this prior to his draft and the Arizona debacle. I have my doubts, but I can’t say one way or another.

Doesn’t include all of them and doesn’t say whether it continued or not. People are assuming the worst in every instance and trying to chop down any attempts to whittle them to nothing. Again, there is no winning when saying anything. It won’t matter. Only the results will

Ooof. Yeah 20 total hours of mandated community service isn't it. I just find it too convenient the places listed in the statement are the ones that are the court mandated ones.

Almost like he hasn’t earned the benefit of the doubt

Not speaking on the Bruins’ leadership here. Speaking on public outcry on many situations (not just Miller). It is weird how being a part of being a public mob and actively trying hurt a person’s life is considered moral today. Morality is an always evolving and changing concept (look no further than premarital sex in western culture)… but seems being vindictive and hateful is considered a moral positive in situations like this. While forgiveness and compassion is not allowed or even encouraged anymore.

The outrage is more about the public mob than the issue or person itself.

I'm not going to cry over MM not being able to represent himself in the proper light. Get your shit together and get the message out if you have truly grown from that.

It hasn’t been and it won’t be given. That’s why I keep saying only the results matter in the end for him. There is zero chance they can win the any favor in the public eye. Onus will be on him to prove people wrong (or right).

I disagree on getting the message out, but the get your shit together, absolutely.

The proper light shouldn’t matter to his camp at all. Face up to the idea that he’s going to be very unpopular and have to prove himself more. Then put his head down and work for it.

I mean realistically the easiest thing to do here is to go to the family, on your own, and speak with the kid he abused and his parents. You're f***ing 19 years old now pal, man up.

Courts or no courts, counsel or no counsel, that is what he should do and if he can't even bring himself to do that... I don't know if anything he does will show that he's "changed".

The outrage is on what Miller did and lack of remorse at least until it impacts him. Public mobs just amp the volume to 11 and this is a very hot button issue. The fault of this is on Miller and only Miller.

I mean if he really did great I want that to be acknowledged and known.

Probably easier said than done given the temperature of the whole situation. The families have a lot of history against each other and lines have been drawn. I doubt there is room for forgiveness at this point.

That said, I’d be advising him to do it.
