Seriously, things like maximum allowable fines and lengths of suspensions would be things I would put on the table relatively quickly in negotiations if I were the players union. They really need to drive the player safety issue for their own well-being. So if they can do so in a way that appears as a give in negotiations, I would do so immediately.

It's not my money and it doesn't affect the salary cap. As long as the owners allow the GM to admit a change is necessary and bite the bullet with years remaining on the contract, he can pay them whatever he wants.
