Whatever the Avs are willing to give him for one year, another team will be willing to give him that plus more term.
But another team can't give him the chance to play with MacKinnon, Makar, Toews, Nichushskin (hopefully), Landeskog, Rants. Again, this would not be my plan A but it would be something I would low-key investigate what Malkin's camp is thinking about regarding one year deals vs term if he doesn't re-sign in Pittsburgh. Team choas in me hopes he signs in Philly.

This myth has to stop. Every single time people here say that and every single time the star player signs elsewhere. They don't give a shit about that. Other top teams have top players too. Ask Giroux.

GMs sign stupid deals with too much term all the time, that doesn't make it not stupid. Sure Geno could get another big fat deal with term if he wanted it, but that wouldn't make it a good deal for the team that tried it.

Malkin is still a PPG player at the age of 35. In 3 years the cap should be $85-87 mil, which would make $5 mil more or less a 3C money. There's a very real chance he outperforms a 3 x $5 mil contract.

Not talking Malkin here, talking Letang. IMO Malkin is very close to being finished.

Speculation that should be viagra for this board.

Crouse is an RFA this off-season and I believe eligible for UFA after next season (If not the one after definitely).

Given the state of the Coyotes if have to wonder Crouse’s desire to even play there next year. Even as an RFA he has some leverage. He can take a deal for the remainder of his Coyotes control years and no more and bolt as a free agent AND establish himself as prime trade bait at the deadline. He could also go into this off season and use his RFA status to force a trade-n-sign deal.

Even a good offer sheet candidate as I doubt the cheap ass Morellos would match nor have the capacity to fire off a revenge signing if they could even convince a player to take the chance of moving to that train wreck.

He wouldn't sign an offersheet if he wants out of Arizona. It could lock him up there long term if they match.

Crosby would be nice to have for the next 3 seasons. I would not trade Byram for him, he should be cheaper when he gets to decide where he goes (if anywhere). Some other prospect or a 1st rounder would be worth it for the Penguins if they really go for the rebuild. At least I'd take it over keeping him if I was in their shoes. Whatever happened at that last game might signal that they are done with him or the other way around.

E: I do think it's more likely that the Pens continue to go for the cup with this aging core if they get what they want.

Not sure that they would in any event. You also do like Carolina did with Kotkaniemi and just OS him one season so The Yotes are faced with the prospect of matching and not having the ability to trade him and him walking at the end of the season.

Well I ain't giving up both Newhook and Byram for a 34 year old Crosby no matter how great Sid is. He's not young anymore
I mean Crosby would be arguably our best player. The dudes still 100pt guy and one of the faces of the league, if you’re trading for him it’s gonna hurt bad.

I’m sure Pittsburgh wouldn’t though. Can’t imagine they do a deal without Byram being involved.
Okay if they do go for the rebuild, why would they keep Crosby for 3 rebuild years instead of getting 2 young players and a 1st rounder? The Pens don't have much power in that situation. They could keep him for spite if it's a real lowball like a single 2nd rounder, but that suggested offer they would take without a second thought.

I mean it would be Byram+ for sure.
