I don't think that's going to happen. But that would most certainly be the cost.
Sakic isn’t going to trade away his future top 4 D-man when he’s already playing in the POs. He’s always in the chase for coveted players but he always has his cap as to what he’ll pay and he’s been pretty ruthless about it until his hand was forced with Kuemper and Landeskog.

BTW, would you rather have Kuemper or Andersen now?

I'm not saying Sakic is going to trade Byram...

Also that's not really an easy question to answer considering things could be considerably better or worse with Andersen. Who knows what Sakic does with a 1st and Timmins in play still and what the team would look like in that instance.

Dream scenario, Crosby sees the Pens go full rebuild and forces their hand into a trade only to the Avs. Pens can't get full value and trade is for peanuts with Kaut, Bowers and a Ryan Stoa signed college jersey going the other way.

Hall and Giroux what? Avs finally get their big fish.

Yeah, it’s definitely a what if question. I’m really pleased though with the overall depth of this team in all facets. Top and bottom 6 and an exceptional and balanced D corps throughout. If Vasilevsky isn’t in God mode then I definitely think this team can go the distance and win the SC.

Me searching up “nichushkin” on hfboards:

Normally I'd say go for broke when it comes to trying to win a Cup. After all, none (or most?) don't regret trading Mats indirectly for Lemieux, or a lot of good parts (Rolston/Pahlsson/1st) for Bourque. Crosby from 35-38 is still going to be a positive impact on a team.

On the other hand, Byram just has so much potential for today's NHL. There was a massive gap between Blake's retirement and Makar's ascendance where the defense was a horrific achilles heel that could never been made up despite the wealth of forwards. And I'm not sure I'd want to give up the potential of having an elite defense that could span the decade for an intense 2-3 years that might honestly not even result in a Cup.

Last thing that Avs want to do is trade their best Dman prospect. Sakic knows that he will be fired if he trades Byram.

It's absolutely a low ball for Kris Letang. The guy doesn't seem to be slowing down. Of course father time catches up to everyone but he just had the best season of his career statistically at the age of 35 and watching the Rangers/Penguins series he still moves around at 35 just as well as when he was 25, and looks to be just as physical.

Malkin on the other hand... despite the stats, looks finished. He looks extremely slow out there and the hands seem to be fading, too.
yes Letang is still a top notch blueliner..one of the best in the league. Terrible low ball offer.

This myth has to stop. Every single time people here say that and every single time the star player signs elsewhere. They don't give a shit about that. Other top teams have top players too. Ask Giroux.
but some want to win ...although if Giroux picked Florida it obviously wasn't about winning. Seriously overated team

They got caved though in a game where everyone else was dominant

Meh, "caved in" is a bit of an exaggeration. For instance, Helm was 7 shot attempts for, 9 against. Cogliano was 4 for, 9 against. If you just look at the percentage then yes it looks bad but really, that's not so bad. They forechecked well enough and Helm forced a turnover and breakaway, the fact they got hemmed in maybe once in limited minutes doesn't bother me too much.

Now, Sturm was 4/11, and I've said elsewhere I did not like the way he played game 1 at all, so I'm expecting better from him. If he plays better and the rest of the team either maintains or improves upon their performance, then I doubt we'll see a repeat of that.

In Sturm's defense, he absolutely destroyed the Blooz in the faceoff dot. Didn't lose a single one.

Who cares? I have been told many times on this forum faceoffs don't matter................

Could have used that faceoff prowess in game 2 but he didn't take a single faceoff. Everyone minus Landeskog got cleaned in the circle.

Here's a serious and realistic proposal:

Trade Rantanen to Winnipeg this summer straight up for PLD and then sign UFA Forsberg to replace him.

Sign Forsberg to 7 X 8M and PLD to 7 X 6.5M

Rants (9.25M) + Kadri (4.5M) = 13.75M
Forsberg (8M) + PLD (6.5M) = 14.5M

Only 750k more on the cap and 1W and 2C are fixed long term.

I wish they'd quit with this strong side/weak side bullshit. Just put the guy who will win a goddamned faceoff in the circle.
