I think Kuemper will have plenty of suitors.

Since he became a full-time starter four years ago, he’s really only had one bad year and it wasn’t that bad for playing on a horrible team. He has a career .919 Sv% and he just now started playing for a strong team.

It probably comes down to whether, or not Kuemper wants max money, or wants to keep playing in Colorado.
I don't see him taking a discount, dude hasn't made that much money (2 X 4.5M is his biggest contract) and he's turning 32 this summer. It's his only shot at a big UFA contract.

We'll have to pay him market value to keep him, which is somewhere around 6 X 6.

Doesn’t he have. History of injuries laying him that until 38 is less then ideal and I love theolayer

If Sakic really offered a 1 year deal Kuemper is probably motivated to play for a big fat contract.

Kinda like proving it on a bridge then wanting to get paid.

I wouldn't blame Kuemper for that.

If Kuemper brings us to the cup then I say 6.5x6 is worth. Can’t keep having an unknown in the crease each year, look how Gru screwed us. With that said I’ll wait to see how Kuemper does this May

On the FA front, Kadri and Burakosvky are goners, and that's totally fine. We have a fantastic chance here to maximize our last run with those two, but they've simply priced themselves off this roster with their play, good and bad. We have guys ready to take the next step, and they're gonna have to show that for real next season because absolutely Kadri and Burakovsky are hitting the market

Nichushkin has to, has to, HAS TO be re-signed. He is a diamond in the rough that we tripped over and found for free, and the only thing keeping him from a sure $6 million long term payday elsewhere is whether or not he can bring it in these playoffs. If he does, we're in some deep caca, as he is so demonstrably essential that walking out the door for free would be a serious travesty. If he has a solid playoff, I give him $6.5 for 5 years without batting an eye, and move whoever you have to move to do it (cough comphermurrayjohnson)

Kuemper is becoming the next essential move. I don't know the goalie market well enough to know what he'll garner, but he looks like the guy we've been waiting for. Would be a shame to have to start over with someone else

What do you all think our bottom 6 when healthy will be?

Lehkonen - Newhook - Compher
Helm - Sturm - LOC

That's what I'd like to see.

I think Newhook needs to pick things up or could be a surprise player to see the bench. I could see Bednar rolling as a line he trusts.

Lehkonen - Sturm - Compher
Cogs - Helm - LOC

Gru helps this time around as an object lesson who thought the grass was greener.

Have you been watching the games? This is Newhooks best stretch of the season..

Could see Newhook getting the bench as well.

Will be interesting to see.

If I were to guess, right now I would say we see:

Lehkonen - Sturm - Newhook
LOC - JTC - Cogliano

But with guys like Helm and NAK on the bench, I can see the bottom 6 rotating quite a bit tbh.

Can't foger MacDermid will likely be used in some games as well, especially if we play Minnesota or Vegas at any point.

Newhook has 8 points in his last 8 games while playing with 4th liners, are you guys even watching the games?

Sakic isn't paying Kuemper long term. He wouldn't go 6x6 for a guy that got nominated for the Vezina (rightfully so, that was smoke and mirrors with Gru) and he won't do it for Kuemper who is older and more injury prone throughout his career - cup or not.

Just a hunch here, but if Kuemper does leave as a UFA to the highest bidder I can see Sakic targeting either Georgiev in a "prove it" trade with the Rangers, or Ullmark in a "we'll take this contract off your hands" trade with the Bruins. Not that Ullmark's contract is a bad one, but they might want to roll with Swayman as the full time starter given how he's looked this season and 5M is insane to pay a backup goalie.

He's heating up at the right time for sure. Same with Bura.
Not at all saying sit Newhook. ~10 games ago him and Bura weren't playing great, especially defensively with bad turn overs.
Playoffs are different and maybe Bednar wants to go more defensive. Luckily they've both turned it around.

Too many teams desperate for a starter and GM's trying to save their butt.
There will definitely be a lot of teams interested. If DK is only looking for a big payday and doesn't care WHERE he plays, he's pretty much gone right now. It would be surprising from a guy coming from that Donkey-show in Arizona but you never know.

There was no context given. As soon as I heard that, I automatically assumed that this occurred very shortly after making his acquisition and probably prior to him playing for the Avs.
Sunk cost
You need a Plan B.
I think at this point, the Avs and the DK camp are fine with just playing it out. I understand the Avs point of view that they want to make sure they sign a starter long-term that they feel can take them all the way and from the DK camp, they probably want a great contract or they'll wait until Free Agency.

How much difference in terms of $$$ would it mean to wait to re-sign him after the playoffs vs doing it now??

And if you actually win the Cup, obviously you don't want to lose your starter but then it's like "well, at least we won the Cup but we can't keep everybody"...

Everything pretty much hinges on how much DK loves playing and living in Denver or not.

I think that both sides will reach a consensus where the Avs are giving DK an extra year of term they'd prefer not to give him (that 5th year) and he'll come-in at around mid-5. ($5.5M x 5 years)

If the Avs do decide to pay/keep Kuemper, I wonder if the plan of marinating Maltsev in the AHL is to try him at 3C

9296
Newhook - x - Nuke
Lehkonen - Maltsev - LOC/X
x - Meyers - LOC/X

This is assuming Compher is moved, Sturm and the vets aren't re-signed (though i could see them holding onto Cogliano for cheap depth)

Ranta, Kaut, Cogliano, OO are all options for one of those 'X's, so that leaves 2 spots on the active roster available through trade/FA
